World 1/4 mile record? I'm not sure what this applies to. Bloomington's track record is 9.388. Is it a pavement world record? Either way, it's pretty fast.

[QUOTE=dirtball;190969]Great sprint car racing . However it sure took a long time to move the show along!!!!!!!![/QUOTE/]

I'm REALLY sorry about the delays throughout the night. We faced a series of setbacks (starting with the hour delay before sprint car hot laps - necessary but unfortunate) to the small support divisions on hand. The sprint car guys needed more time to turn the cars around than they were getting. Slinger is traditionally a Sunday night track featuring five or six divisions, and Saturday we only had the 13 car Slinger Bees and the Amercian Mini Cup cars, also about 12 cars.

In the end we had a first time winner in Mike Larrison. Kyle Flint, who finished second, would also have been a first time winner. Jeff Bloom set fast time and started tenth to finish third.

While I'm at it, I might as well admit the announcer was not their regular announcer. He works Dodge County on Saturdays so the sprint car guy had to cover the entire show. Not a huge deal but on zero notice or prep it is a little challenge to produce it all on the fly. Names like Van Wazer, Udelle, Schley, Hoth, Lobiecki and Prunty when you've never seen them before can be dicey.

It's a tricky proposition to bring in a sprint car show for the first time. The promoter has to balance (guess) the right number of divisions on the card. Then he weighs it against the expected attendance on a nontraditional night, competing against the local fair, NASCAR at Bristol, IRA at Wilmot, and other speedways. Don't forget the weather!!!

Now that the event is over, I'd like to see another division added to put a few minutes of stretch into the program instead of down time on the track. Down time is down time regardless. It can be filled with interviews or nickel pitch or watermelon eating contests but it just isn't racing.

Of course more sprint cars would have been great too but the 20 cars were the right number for a full field. The one local car, Al Schlafer, has raced on pavement occasionally in the past. Wisconsin is on the outer edge of our travel range. We appreciate every car that came to Wisconsin. We appreciate those who didn't but understand they have their reasons for not making that trip. The drivers like the speedway. The people at Slinger are great fans and good people. We look forward to going back next year.

On a 1/4 mile, 9.908 sec is 90.8356883 MPH. (Bloom @ Slinger Saturday)

On a 1/2 mile, 14.211 sec is 126.662444585 MPH (Hines @ Winchester Sunday)

Not that anybody cares.

Hines was a second better than he was at Salem on the 14th! He was fastest there at 15.474 and 129.1041 mph.
Troy Decaire was 14.324 at 139.486 mph at Salem, but that was in the wing cars
