Heading to the Nationals this year for the first time. Anything we should check out besides the Sprint car HOF. Thanks

One of my favorite events is the Knoxville Nationals parade on Saturday morning. Also, schedule yourself enough time to go through the souvineer stands. It is quite impressive all of the merchandise that the drivers now have.

While it's not a five star resteraunt I'd recommend eating at Mr C's outside of turn two once that week. I'd always went there just to see who I'd see there and shoot the breeze with a lot of racers & car owners ect.
Once ate dinner there with Karl Kinser sitting beside me. Young waitress asked him if she could get him anything else...Karl replied yes he'd like a bowl of strawberry ice cream. Waitress looked puzzled and said I'm sorry sir but we don't have strawberry ice cream. He chuckled and politely said oh ya you do...he explained to her he'd been working at that track for a lot of years. A senior waitress overheard heard this, went to the back. Low and behold she came back with with a bowl of strawberry ice cream...and said here's your ice cream Karl.
All those Nationals victories Karl's got...may have been the ice cream? Lol. I'd also reccomend eating a Marion county fair "pork 🐖 sandwich" which you can get in the tent right beside the Dingus lounge.

One Saturday afternoon last year at the 360s, my wife and I were looking for something to do. We found out from the girl taking care of the rooms that there is a town about 30 miles SE of the track called What Cheer, IA. The place is known for a HUGE outdoor flea/antique market. I think they set up every weekend.

If you want to kill some time, and I mean a LOT of time, go browsing there.

Pella, IA is a nice look and looked like a nice place to hole up for the Nationals. Actually fairly touristy. We were in Oskaloosa. Nothing against Osky, but I'd look elsewhere.

I've stayed in Pella for several years....really nice clean little laid back town with lots of shops to browse if that's your thing. They gotta big Dutch heritage there so ya you can even tour their big windmill. I believe it's Altoona where the horse track & casino are.
Also the Iowa state fair begins Aug. 11.
Plenty of things to do and see around Knoxville. Where else you gonna see a sprint car in the Wal Mart? Lol

Pella is a very nice community and has a great road trip from Knoxville. Me and mailman packed up the golf bags and went there for a round of golf and had racing shirts on with out collars and they said no play. We found another place that took our money. Lol. Have fun and enjoy.

I'd sooner think they just took a look of you and the mailman and decided they better get you off the property before you scared all the other customers off !

You could take Stubb golfing with you, but miniature golf would be better suited for him!
