Bill Powers was a USAC car owner back in the 70's. He was partnered with Bill King and they ran the "Kings Custom Machine/Powers Welding #51 Sprinter". Their cars were always first class and fast. Bills motto was, 2nd place was just the first loser. His drivers included Vogler, Gates, Leavitt, Hewett, and Cockrum to name a few. RIP Bill.

I always remember the 51 car as super fast. If I remember Leavitt had a bunch of fast times.

I remember the car running well in the Knoxville Nationals.

Somebody on the team could really make the thing fly.

Proud to have known bill as a friend. As a young kid he always had time to talk to me. Thanks for letting me be a small part of your team. roger
