21 cars on the grid. 200-300 fans in the stands. I'm not at the track but just talked to Honest Sam who is there.

This is not looking to promising that we will see this event come back next year. Only 21 cars and that few people in the stands! Looks like Rick Dawson might be taking a bath on this one. Probably bad timing on the scheduling is what kep alot of the bigger USAC teams from competing with the Nebraska and Belleville swing coming up this week.

Not to mention Midgetweek following the Nebraska/Belleville week! I'm not an expert on motor life, but I'd venture a guess, that after 400 laps tonight, that would do in 1 motor, Belleville's going to eat another, plus the travel costs....

Thats too bad. It's a good idea, but I think this is a bad weekend to do it. To many other options for fans, and as pointed out, too close to other major midget races.

You were correct that they only had 21 cars on the grid. However, there were more than 200-300 fans in the stands. I would think realistically 2200-2500 would be closer.

The leader from 214 to 300 was Alison Macleod in one of the blue #4 cars. The top three were the only ones in the same lap. Alison appeared to be better in the long run than the short run. Both Armstrong and Ehrgott got around her at the start of the last 100 laps (they had competition yellows at lap 150 and 300). She was reeling them in and then Tracy Hines hit the wall. Don't know why. On the restart, Bobby East got around her in an attempt to get another lap back and that was that.

I was not happy with the lack of cars or the fact that they made all tickets general admission after I spent time on the phone getting a reserved seat where I wanted it. However, I am glad I went. I found it entertaining and hope they have it again next year.

The track announced that we should save the ticket stubs and they will give a $10 discount on the September 9 (?) midget race. I also appreciated the all-driver autograph session between hot laps and the start of the feature. As I am sure you all know, they do this for the Little 500 also.

All in all, glad I was there (with a lot more than 200-300 people).

Frank,

To bad I didn't know you were there. I would have stopped by and introduced myself and said hello. I also am glad that I went and I really enjoyed the evening. As I mentioned on another post, I hope this becomes a "special" event in the future like the Little 500.

Actually, I think the top 4 were on the same lap. Hines hit the wall after a wheel (right front, I think) came off.
