It was a big night for the Devon Racing Team!
There were 17 non-wing Spec Sprint Cars signed in for the event, but the stands were packed for the GLR 360 Series, combined with the Civil War Series, which drew more than 40 360 Winged Sprint Cars.

Heat Race:
Start: 5th
Finish: 2nd
Devon's pill draw put him starting 5th in the 2nd Heat Race. You have to finish in the top 2 to run the 4 car, 4-lap trophy dash.
Devon had an excellent start, moving into the 4th position as they completed the first lap. He had passed for 3rd a few times, but the yellow came out, so they had to revert back to the last completed lap. Finally, on lap 4, he made the pass for 3rd. Another caution came out, setting up a 3 lap sprint. Devon raced hard, banging the cushion on the high side of the track, maintaining momentum, & was able to take over the 2nd position on the white flag lap & held on to transfer to the dash.

Bruce Velo of CMP2 Video Productions sent over a video clip showing the last 3 laps of the 8 lap Heat Race. It is so hard to move up in 8 laps, but this really set the tone for the entire night....

Trophy Dash:
Start: 2nd
Finish: 1st
Devon timed the start well, & got the jump & led all 4 laps to win the 4-lap trophy dash. This would put him on the pole for the 20-lap feature.

A-Main Event:
Start: 1st
Finish: 1st

Devon took charge on the initial green, & never looked back as he paced the 17 car field on the dry slick track. Our car was hooked up well, & although we had a pretty good battle with 2nd place running Billy Aton, it was a 2-horse race as the leaders checked out from the rest of the field. The two cars were running a pretty even pace, & things tightened up a few times as a result of a few cautions, & as they navigated through lapped traffic. The final caution came at lap 16, setting up a 4 lap sprint to the finish. Devon took the final green & drove a perfect line to grab his 3rd Main Event Win of the season, & 2nd at Ocean Speedway.

Saturday night, July 18:
After being pushed on all day / night on Friday from Devon, we decided to head up to Petaluma to run the Winged, Injected 360 Sprint Car. It would be Devon's 3rd time in the car, & first at Petaluma.
We qualified about mid pack, & drew the outside front row starting position for his Heat Race. When the green waived, Devon pulled a wheelie off the start, & after getting the car settled down, came out of turn 2 with the lead & never looked back. We had the two fastest cars at the track in our Heat, Bradley Terrell & Alyssa Geving, & Devon was able to pull away from them & take his first Heat Race win in the winged car.

For the Main Event, he would again line up on the outside front row. As they were getting ready to take the green, the pole starter jumped pretty early, but they let it go & the race was on. Devon held onto 2nd for about 3 laps, & hit a rut that as developing in the middle of turns 1 & 2. Terrell & Geving were both able to get by, & a few laps later, he hit it again, alowing another car to get by which dropped him to 5th. He finally figured out how to navigate the turn, & was starting to close back up to the leaders. He had some great battles with the leaders, & was able to navigate well through lapped traffic, as only 7 cars finished on the lead lap. The 25 lap race went non-stop, green to checker, in a record time of 6 minutes, 11 sec, & Devon would end up 5th. He said it was really intense, & was kind of looking forward to having a caution just to catch his breath a bit....
It was a great night of experience runing the faster car, & we all felt pretty good about the event.

Stay tuned!
