$5k Hensel Memorial Up Next for BOSS

The 2015 BOSS championship chase is now entering the home stretch as only 7 events remain. Up next is the 3rd annual "Mike Hensel Memorial" at Fremont Speedway this Saturday, August 15th. This year's event will see a record BOSS total purse that is highlighted by a $5,000 to win 33 lap A-Main on the historic Sandusky County Fair 1/3 mile oval. The purse has been increased throughout the field including $2,000 for the runner-up and $1,000 for 3rd place. The 10th place finisher will earn $500 and the race will pay $333 to start in memory of Hensel who raced with the number 33.

This will be a historic event in other ways as well, as for the first time since its inception in 2011, the Mo Vaughn Transport BOSS sprints will time trial. Although adamant about the draw / redraw system for regular events, promoter Aaron Fry realizes the importance of time trialing with big money on the line. The format will see single car qualifying with the top 6 inverted in each heat race. The fast qualifier will come out after time trials to roll the dice to see if the A-Main will invert four, six or eight positions. The top 4 finishers in each heat will advance to the main event and earn their time back. The top qualifiers who make it through their heat will make up the inversion. The B-Main will be lined up from heat race finishes. Drivers advancing through the B-Main will also get their time back, but can not start in front of any of the inversion cars.

In addition to a great A-Main payout of over $15,000, there will be heat race and bonus awards up for grabs. Heat races pay the top four finishers $40, $30, $20 and $10 respectively. There will also be five cash bonus awards, gift certificates and free tires from American Racer and Hoosier up for grabs. The complete list of awards is posted below.

The two previous winners of the Hensel Memorial have both been California drivers. Robert Ballou of Rocklin, California won $3,300 in the 2013 event and a year ago, Kingsburg, California's Kody Swanson took home a $5,000 payday. This year, the BOSS tour regulars are determined to defend the home turf and they will be led into battle by the current point leader, the "Guilford Gasser" Shawn Westerfeld and defending tour champion, the "Magic Man", Mike Miller. Dustin Smith and Cooper Clouse have recent wins fueling their momentum headed into the big weekend. Aaron Middaugh is quietly having his best season sitting 5th in points, and after a good run a week ago, Michael Fischesser has climbed back into title contention.

Other BOSS stars expected to be in the field include Chad Wilson, Cody Gardner, Justin Owen, Bob McMillin, Scott Hardman, Joe Butera, Brandon Spithaler, Kirk Jeffries, Chuck Wilson, Bobby Distel, George Willard and Kent Wolters. As always, some Fremont local runners are expected to take a shot at the big prize and in typical BOSS fashion, you just never know who may show up!

Gates will open at 4 pm Saturday with racing action getting underway at 7 pm. Pit passes will be $35 with general admission $20 and senior citizens at $18. Students will be $12 with kids age 10 and under admitted free. Also on the card will be 305 winged sprints, dirt trucks and the 602 crate late models. For drivers, mufflers or muffler inserts are required! Fuel will be available at the track. There are absolutely no fees to race with BOSS and it is an open tire series. Any tire that is commercially available is legal.

For more information you can visit the BOSS website at www.buckeyesprints.com or the track's website at www.fremontohspeedway.com

Hughes Racing has now come on board once again to make the "hard charger" of the A-Main award worth $333.

With BOSS literally anyone could show up and Fremont's tricky layout means ANYONE can win. Inaugural winner Robert Ballou has announced he will be racing elsewhere but defending champion Kody Swanson is reported to be entered but driving for a different team than when he won a year ago.

With Cali drivers winning the first two, the Ohio-Indiana-PA boys of BOSS are anxious to stop that trend!
