2022 TRACK CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED SATURDAY NIGHT AT LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY

Lawrenceburg Speedway will crown its 2022 track champions Saturday night, September 17th, at its regular season ending “Night of Champions.” Sterling Cling (Tempe, Ariz.), Matt Hamilton (Aurora, Ind.), Danny Eichler (Aurora, Ind.), and Cordell Moore (Holton, Ind.) are the current point leaders, but all four divisions are still up for grabs with multiple drivers in each class still mathematically eligible in the title hunt.

KELSEY CHEVROLET SPRINTS

Nick Bilbee’s reign as two-time and defending champion will end this weekend when the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints try once again to hold the 19th Annual Dick Gaines Memorial. After weather postponed the event on August 20th, and again on September 3rd, hopes are the third time is the charm to honor this Indiana racing legend.

Although another championship is out of his reach, Bilbee can still become the first three-time winner of one of the most prestigious races on the Lawrenceburg Speedway schedule. Bilbee is the most recent sprint winner on the 3/8ths mile high banks, winning the “BOSS/Burg Showdown” on June 18th – nearly 13 weeks ago!

Sterling Cling holds a slim 10-point lead in the championship standings over 2012 Rookie of the Year Justin Owen, with three-time champion Joss Moffatt lurking another 5 markers back. 175 competition points and 50 show points are available with Michael Fischesser (-105), Garrett Abrams (-115), and Ryan Barr (-175) still competing for the championship.

KELSEY CHEVROLET SPRINTS
1. Sterling Cling–985
2. Justin Owen–975
3. Joss Moffatt–970
4. Michael Fischesser–880
5. Garrett Abrams–870
6. Ryan Barr–810
7. Nick Bilbee–675
8. Saban Bibent–615
9. Tyler Kendall–610
10. JJ Hughes–585

KOI AUTO PARTS UMP MODIFIEDS

Like his sprint car counterpart, two-time and defending track champion David Spille will be eliminated in his quest for a third straight championship when Matt Hamilton hits the track for practice Saturday evening in the KOI Auto Parts UMP Modifieds.

Hamilton wrested the point lead from Jeffery Jessup on August 27th when he visited Signarama victory line twice – the makeup feature from July 24th and the night's regular show. Hamilton will be gunning for his third Lawrenceburg Speedway championship with Jessup a mere 20-points behind and looking for his first.

KOI AUTO PARTS UMP MODIFIEDS
1. Matt Hamilton–1,605
2. Jeffery Jessup–1,585
3. David Spille–1,425
4. Gage Clark–1,360
5. Scotty Kincaid–1,265
6. Tyler McGhee (R)–1,255
7. Joe Smith–1,165
8. Kyle Schornick–915
9. Cory Skipton–890
10. Mike Douglas–835

IMPACT SPORTS PURE STOCKS

73 years young Danny Eichler has been racing at Lawrenceburg Speedway since he was a teenager. He has multiple track championships in the late model division and this season has led the Impact Sports Pure Stocks since the second race of the year. In the four races run to date, Eichler has a trio of runners-up and a third-place finish.

At the opposite end of the age spectrum, 18-year-old Will Hayes opened the season with a win on April 16th and trails Eichler by 70 points going into the season finale. 2019 & 2020 track champion Joel Andrews is still gunning for his third track championship and with two feature wins under his belt this season ranks 5 points behind Hayes.

IMPACT SPORTS PURE STOCKS
1. Danny Eichler–940
2. Will Hayes–870
3. Joel Andrews–865
4. Rob Kraus–715
5. Dylan Chase–710
6. Corebin McRoberts–690
7. Elijah McRoberts (R)–665
8. Don Grace–585
9. Mike Allen (R)–480
10. Travis Butte–465

BESSLER’S U PULL & SAVE HORNETS

Three-time Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornet champion Cordell Moore has the largest point lead of all divisions coming into the season finale – 135 points. Moore has led the standings from the get-go, winning four of the five features including the “Hornet Nationals” on August 27th. In the one race he did not win he ran second to defending champion Landen Ramirez.

Track rules dictate that the previous hornet feature winner can start no better than tenth in the next feature. Due to his feature win on June 18th that is where Moore will start Saturday. If he starts his heat race and finishes 20th or better in the feature the 2022 track championship will be his.

2019 Rookie of the Year Alex West is the current runner-up in the standings with a 60-point advantage over his teammate Ryan Paciocco, who holds a slim 5-point advantage over Jesse Ramirez.

BESSLER’S U PULL & SAVE HORNETS
1. Cordell Moore–1,190
2. Alex West–1,055
3. Ryan Paciocco–995
4. Jesse Ramirez–990
5. Landon Ramirez–940
6. Gary Snyder–820
7. Lane Anderson (R)–805
8. Billey Moore–745
9. Nate Byrd (R)–725
10. Brad Pepper–680
10. Bobbo Smith–680

General admission gates are set to open at 5:00 pm Saturday with hot laps at 6:00 pm, and opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $22, children (7-12) are $7, and those 6 and under are free.
