KYLE HAMILTON SCORES SECOND STRAIGHT LITTLE 500 TOP FIVE
By Zach Tasker

Saturday night May 23 saw the 67th running of the biggest and most prestigious pavement sprint car race in the world, the Pay Less Little 500 presented by UAW-GM. Pavement open wheel racing specialist Kyle Hamilton would start 5th in the 33 car field. The multiple time USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series feature winner would quickly work his way to the front in the endurance race and was the leader around the lap 300 mark. The driver of the #5 Sam Pierce Chevrolet/Parker Machinery Beast/Klatt Enterprises Chevy would battle through lots of adversity on the tight confines of the high banked ¼ mile paved oval in Anderson, Indiana.

Even though it looked like “The Professor” might have had a shot at victory the very fast cars of eventual race winner Chris Windom and Dave Steele were too tough to hold off. Hamilton would soldier on to a 3rd place finish. This is a very impressive run after finishing 5th in his rookie campaign in 2014. “Chasing down Windom and Steele was challenging. Those guys are extremely talented and have a lot of laps at Anderson. I did all I could, but I couldn't make up any ground. At no point in any race do I ever think I have a race won, especially the Little 500. There are so many things that can happen over the course of that race and you can never know for sure if you are going to win until you cross the finish line for the last time. I am happy to have two top 5's in two starts but yes, I want to win that race. If you ask people at next year's race about the guy who got third the year before, they won't know who the heck you're talking about. People remember winners. We are on the right path to winning; we just can't have any mistakes. Mistake free races result in wins.”

The Danville, Indiana native also had his younger brother Nick racing with him in the event that is co-sanctioned by the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series and the USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series built by the UAW. Nick was able to finish 9th in his Little 500 debut. "I was really happy for my brother. He really struggled in qualifying, but he stuck with it and moved from his 30th starting position all the way up to 9th. He should be proud of his effort."

The Little 500 will be broadcast nationally on MAV TV later this summer on a date to be announced. Kyle’s next race will have his focus return to the USAC Silver Crown series and his ride with 6R racing. The tour next stops at the 7/8 mile Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on June 20. The team is looking forward to capitalizing on a strong run at Toledo Speedway at the beginning of May before a mechanical failure sidelined them.
