The Marion County Fair Association, in cooperation with Knoxville Raceway, has voted to cancel the remainder of the 2020 racing season.

“The health and safety of our fans, competitors and employees is our top priority,” said Brian Bailey, Marion County Fair Association President. “Several individuals tested positive for COVID-19 following our most recent race. In light of that information, we feel that returning to racing this weekend would be premature. Additionally, a large-scale event like the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals won’t be in the best interests of the track or the community at this time.

“None of us like to see the race season end this way, but we’re confident this is the right decision for all parties.”

The following events will be affected by this decision:
• August 28 – Busch Light Night
• August 29 – Iowa Corn Growers Association Districts 5 & 9 Night
• September 17-19 – Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals
• September 25 – Knoxville Championship Series
• September 26 – Knoxville Hospital & Clinics/Slideways Night

Tickets and camping for the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals will be automatically refunded.

For questions regarding refunds on suites, season tickets and season parking, please call the ticket office at 641-842-5431.

The 2021 Knoxville Raceway season is scheduled to begin with the Pella Motors/Kraig Ford Season Opener on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Terrible move in my opinion. Was kicking around the big Late Model Race because a couple buddies were considering it. You can get the virus at grocery store as easy as you can the race track.

True, but after a number of folks tested positive after their last big race, it was probably their only option.

I would venture to guess the Marion County Fair Board and also the raceway promoters insurance companies had most of the say in the call. We will soon see vulture attorneys trying to sue most any company or venue that they can tie to Covid cases.

Not so sure about that. I see everyone at the grocery store wearing masks. Everyone. They keep moving don't stop in groups and are out. I see basically no masks at the track, large victory lane groups, no spacing at concession lines and packed restrooms. not saying whether they should of cancelled or not but my opinion is you are at less risk grocery shopping.

Now I think Knoxville seating was good with their reduced capacity and closed rows and all. Too bad they couldn't of run the weekly shows as I understand they do not bring large attendance.

Points, I won’t debate you other than to say that 2 of the people closest to me work store maintenance in a large supermarket chain in northwest Indiana where for a good period of time masks were optional. So I suppose you’re right it is easier to get it at the track. Meanwhile I see that Pitman Kinser and McMahon all who had some positive tests are all racing this weekend or are scheduled to. My point if you feel threatened please stay home, let the rest of us race

That would make sense if people who attend a race never left the grounds. Obviously that is impossible, so what about all those people who they come into contact with in everyday life?
