BOSS Sprints Eye Fremont Return

This Saturday, October 1st will be a sprint car fan's delight at Fremont Speedway. The Rick's Trucks & Equipment BOSS series will headline a 3 division program, known as the Fort Ball Palace - Open Wheel Shootout, that includes winged 410 sprints and the winged 305 sprints.

On the heels of last week's win at Atomic Speedway, the "Guilford Gasser" Shawn Westerfeld of Guilford, Indiana, hopes to clinch the 2016 championship. After having four different champions in the first 4 seasons, Westerfeld appears poised to make history and become the first ever repeat titlist.

The diversity and competitiveness of the BOSS series has been displayed every season since the series' inception in 2011. The first four champions were each only able to garner one win in their title runs. Westerfeld has already scored 3 tour wins this season. With 2 races remaining, he has a chance to become the first driver ever to win 4 races in one year.

Youngster Cooper Clouse of Ohio City, Ohio is not ready to give up the fight just yet. The 2014 National Non-Wing sprint car "Rookie of the Year" started the season strong with back to back wins and led the points for most of the first half of the season. A vicious crash at Lernerville that sent Clouse to a nearby hospital temporarily derailed his title hopes. But he never missed a race and still has a realistic shot at becoming the fifth different champion in as many years.

Harrison, Ohio driver Justin Owen has been the surprise of 2016 hanging onto a steady 3rd spot most of the season after picking up his first career sprint feature victory at Lernerville. Michael Fischesser and Chad Wilson have been locked in a great battle for the 4-5 spots in a battle that will go down to the wire.

Despite missing 2 events, Cody Gardner holds the 6th spot in the standings. Behind Gardner, an absolute dogfight has been going on most of the season between Aaron Middaugh, Steve Little, Stratton Briggs and Andy Feil for the 7-10 spots. Only 53 points separate the four drivers with 2 races to go. Dustin Smith, Bob McMillin, Joe Butera, Bobby Distel and Carmen Perigo round out the top 15 who will be honored at season's end.

This Saturday at Fremont Speedway, gates will open at 4 pm with racing at 7. General admission is just $16 for adults while seniors are admitted for $12 and students just $10. Kids ages 10 and under are free. Pit passes will be $30. For teams competing, mufflers ARE required for this event and transponder rental will be $5. Fuel will be available at the track. As always, there are no fees to race with BOSS.

Kear's Speed Shop of Tiffin, Ohio has come on board as a heat race sponsor for this event. In addition, the first B-Main non transfer will also be awarded a $100 gift certificate to Kear's. Other heat race sponsors for this event include Buckeye Machine and Fab, Lias Tire/American Racer, Hoosier Race Tires and Superior Bearing and Supply.

BOSS also wishes to thank all of our sponsors who supply the many bonus awards and perks that have made the tour so special.
