“Deuces Wild” opens 24-race MOWA slate at Tri-City Speedway

By Lynsey Whitaker – lynseyawhitaker@gmail.com

Springfield, Ill, (April 5, 2016) – The Neal Tire MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores will kick off its 2016 race season on Friday, April 15 at Tri-City Speedway. The fourth annual “Deuces Wild” event also features DIRTcar-sanctioned Super Late Models and Modifieds for separate $2,000 to win features.

Five-time and defending MOWA Champion Jerrod Hull leads the list of entries to the Pontoon Beach, Ill. 3/8-mile facility. Last season’s runner-up Paul Nienhiser, most recent Tri-City MOWA winner Brad Loyet, Parker Price-Miller and Spencer Bayston are also on the entry list.

Bayston will make his first ever winged start with the MOWA Sprints. The Keith Kunz Motorsports midget driver was also the 2015 Chili Bowl Rookie of the Year.

In ten previous Tri-City events, Loyet and Brady Bacon lead all drivers with two victories. Hull, Danny Smith, Ian Madsen, Terry McCarl, Hunter Schuerenberg and Rico Abreu also own victories at Tri-City. Schuerenberg is the defending champion of the MOWA portion of Deuces Wild. Bacon won the inaugural event in 2014.

The next night, the MOWA Sprint Car Series will travel to LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Ill. for a co-sanctioned IRA showdown. Should be a great show all around. One of the rare times I get to see a full show featuring classes that rarely race together on a given night, and at a place where they all put on a show.

Also of note:

MOWA Introduces New Race Format

As the Neal Tire MOWA Sprint car series presented by Caseys General Store starts to gear up for the 2016 season, MOWA has decided to shake things up a bit with a new Race format for the 2016. Starting with opening night at Tri City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL, drivers will be using a unique qualifying format with a heat invert and Feature invert. Fast Qualifier will draw a invert pill. Drivers will run progressive through the heat for lineup of starting position in feature. A fan will draw a invert pill for the feature and will remove the need for a dash.

MOWA President Jeremy Standridge says "this will shake things up a bit as well as allow the fans to be able to better understand the way things are done from previous years. The passing points format in the past was very hard for fans to keep up with and even the drivers were wondering if they made enough points up after a heat to make the cut line for the A-Main. This way you know how many cars will be coming out of the heat race, and you still have to qualify hard and not sandbag or lay back to make the invert. With the top qualfier drawing an invert pill, he may start front row pole of the heat race or start 4th in the heat race. This is where luck comes into it, and you still have to race hard in the heat race and put a show on for the fans." We will have the full Race format and rule book out by end of next week and we are looking forward to some great racing in the 2016 season.

Will be interesting to see who comes down. Shaping up to be a great doubleheader weekend for MOWA as it appears Mother Nature finally has figured out what Spring is.
