I busted out one of the finest publications known to man last night, a copy of sprint car pictorial, circa 1977. Besides all the quality photos and neat descriptions of the races, one thing struck me. When and why did features go from 40 laps most of the time, to 30. I was there when it happened, but don't remember the logic behind it. Seems to me that it ought to be 40, at least on the small tracks. I'll thank you all now for refreshing my memory.

Some happened when they went from 1 or 2 classes to 4-5-6.

I watched a 110-lap super late model feature last Wednesday. Sometimes less is better.

I can remember when they were 30 laps in the 50's and 60's and they raised them to 40 laps...maybe in the early to mid 70's? I remember when they went back to 30 laps...maybe in the mid to late 80's?
