Patti,

Once he took the lead, no one had a thing for him. He just pushed the loud pedal and drove off. Bobby East gave it a great effort but he was the second best car/driver combo out there tonight. Glad that the rain finally quit and they got the show in.

There were mistakes in the scoring that was posted previous. Here is the corrected version.

SANTOS TAKES “J.D. BYRIDER 100,” 1ST TO WIN IN ALL 3
Indianapolis, IN…….Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. became the first driver to win in all three 2009 USAC National racing series with his victory in Thursday night’s 100-lap “J.D. Byrider 100” at O’Reilly Raceway Park. Santos grabbed the lead from pole starter Chet Fillip on lap 28 and led the rest of the way, averaging 109.224 mph in his Santos Motor Sports Beast/Performance Technology K & N Silver Crown car. Santos started on the front row and trailed Fillip for the first 27 laps but held off Bobby East for the win, while series point leader Bud Kaeding took third ahead of Fillip and Tyler Walker. NASCAR veteran Ryan Newman finished eighth after starting ninth in the 30-car field. Kaeding takes a 42-point lead over Tracy Hines into the July 31 “Casey’s General Stores 100” at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Started 24th...made a whale of a run up to 14th in 15 laps including taking 5 cars between turns 3 and 4 in one lap! Dropped out shortly after with mechanical failure...not sure what. He was real exciting to watch though!!

I must admit that, in spite of my general lack of interest in pavement racing, that was a pretty good show. It will be even better when the technology improves to the point where we TV watchers can see the whole track. I have no idea how that's going to be done, but I'll bet it will happen. It was amazing that the video was so good for the two main events after being so bad earlier.

BTW, is that the same Chet Fillip who used to drive Indy Cars?

One and the same...he has driven Indy, Daytona, whatever you can think of. He owns Advanced Racing Suspensions and has become known to bring some pretty wild chassis to the racetracks...but they are always competitive. His ride at Anderson in May was a particularly strange looking piece.

Dick,

Yes, Chet Fillip one and the same. From another thread, apparently Rob missed the Fillip/Kaeding tussle as well. I wonder what race he was watching.

Dick, he is also the same Chet Fillip that use to race supermodifieds at Oswego before he raced Indy cars.

Mike, I enjoy going to ORP and was glad I could watch the video since I wasn't going to be there this year. Bobby sure did seem to be the class of the field last night. I hope Oswego also has a good crowd and car count, it would be great to see Oswego become a regular USAC stop each year. That would definitely be one race I would plan on being back in N. Y. for.
