Mr. Hewitt's last trip to Victory Lane driving a Silver Crown car at The Springfield Mile was August of 2000. But the most memorable victory at Springfield was in 1987.
Mr. Hewitt had Gussie pawing and scratching and frothin' at the mouth up on the cushion nearly every lap enroute to the fastest 100 miles in the long and storied history of The Springfield Mile. We have pictures of Mr. Hewitt celebrating in Victory Lane that day in 1987 and those photos are amongst our most prized possessions. That race still is the most dominant Silver Crown win I have ever seen and the record pace Mr. Hewitt & Gussie set way back in '87 stands to this day. Mr. Hewitt, I wish for your latest pursuit of victory at Eldora in the Silver Crown division is above all safe. ROCK ON JACK!!!
