Ray

Just going by what Jason said. Thanks for the link? I was really kind of looking forward to a wide open race DII motor.

Wide open D2 ? Kinda defeats the whole purpose, instead of building up another class of racecar how bout you pony up and ride with the big boys.. 10k is pretty reasonable to go to any big midget show.. Your not far off with the new Ecotech.

Just an outsider's view, but I think engines are pretty good the way they are. Allowing purpose built race engines will result in a lot cars running today to be pushed back in the barn because the owner can't afford to spend what it takes to compete.
Again, just my view from the outside.

we'll have to see what the new D2 engine rules are. but with the way the rules are now you could build a badger engine that is not D2 legal.

Based upon the current leaked info, a D2 motor would be lucky to make 225 horsepower. The Badger rule package is aimed at 350 horsepower. The D2 goal is to make sure a stockblock motor cannot compete with a National motor. At the Kokomo Klash only two stock blocks made the A main & neither was D2 legal.
So you can take your D2 motor to a Badger race and be a legal moving chicane if you want but not the reverse. No word on whether Badger motors would be welcome at National races though. Not that 350 horsepower will win any of those events.

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. The stated goal of the BMARA production engine rules was always 300hp or more. They have never stated 350hp.

So does 225hp mean basically stock long blocks?

BMARA rules state:

"The OEM cylinder head maybe machined or strengthened for longevity. Portingof the cylinder head including intake matching is NOT ALLOWED. Machining, grinding, sanding, or etching of the intakeand/or exhaust ports are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Camshafts, valve springs, valve spring retainers, keepers, and fowler maybe replaced with aftermarket products. All timing components such as cam gears, sprockets, timing chains, and timing belts maybe replaced with aftermarket products. Titanium products are NOT allowed"

Given the fact that porting of heads is not permitted, does the Ecotec really have the CFM to make 300+ Horsepower?? Maybe the Honda does??

From what I understand the difference between DII and BMARA is mostly in the use of aftermarket bolt on parts. Cams, valves, pistons etc. Both have opted for stock blocks, cranks and heads allowing only minor changes to these parts.

It is great to see so much interest in the class and so much interest in keeping the cost down for all the classes of cars. I think we should wait to see the DII rules posted to compare the two. I really don't expect to see a big difference and probably a good DII car could compete with the BMARA racers. I really don't think a lot of guys realize how good of a motor the Ecotec is right out of the car and on to the race track. Many of these aftermarket parts I would classify as Glittering Bull $^it.

Horsepower is directly proportional to how much air you can cram into the cylinder on each stroke and then how much can you compress it until it is time to fire it off. Cams help a little but port design and valve area are paramount and both set of rules take these variables out of the equation.

From everything that I have read is Division II was put together several years ago to make this an affordable class (chassis and engines) so the the average working man can bu an older car add and inexpensive "stock" type of engine and go race....heard that now it is going to allow anything goes as far as the chassis with a somewhat stock style of engine....of course this is hear say....maybe the powers to be will have the riles out before next season so we can make a decision
