STARS Will Resume Saturday July 4th With A Bang

By: Kale Fisher

(MORRIS, IL – July 24, 2015)—The D’Arcy GMC Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) will be back with a bang during the 111th Annual Grundy County Fair on Saturday July 4th, at the Grundy County Speedway. Fans will get extra racing on the 4th due to the rain shortened events on June 20th. So the gates will open early; pit gates at 12:00 pm and the front gates at 3:00 pm. This will allow for qualifying to start at 4:00 pm and the first racing at 4:30 pm.

The STARS events on June 20th was halted by rain after only the Illini Racing Series (IRS) feature was ran. In that feature defending IRS champion and current points leader Patrick Bruns took 1st place. The events of the 20th will allow for double feature night for the National Midgets, the Classic Modified’s (Dwarf), the Central States Region (CSR) Minicups, and the Legacy Midwest Racing Series on July 4th. In addition to the makeup feature for these four divisions STARS will have a full night of events for all five divisions. So every division will have qualifying, heat races, and features.

The National Midget division feature will be the STARS 5th Annual Freedom 50 lap feature. The night will include the Hamilton brothers, Kyle and Nick, from Indianapolis, Indiana making their return to STARS. They will be challenging current point leader Billy Hulbert of Channahon, Illinois who currently leads Brad Greenup, also of Channahon, Illinois by a mere 9 points. The top five in points is rounded out by Mario Clouser in 3rd, Ryan Probst in 4th, and Tyler Baran in 5th.

In the Classic Modified’s (Dwarf) division Darren Ihrke of Cary, Illinois leads the points by 44 points over Ed Ensor. Ihrke increased his points lead by setting fast time and winning his heat race on June 20th. After setting fast time in qualifications and finishing in 2nd place in her heat race on the 20th 14 year old Amanda Bohn of Machesney Park, Illinois leads the CSR Minicups points. Finally in the Legacy Midwest Racing division Nathan Bertino of Lockport, Illinois leads the points over Jordan Caskey by a mere three points. So the 4th of July event will be full of fireworks when it comes to the point standings.

Rain checks will be honored from the June 20th show, but fans must present their tickets from that night to be fully honored. Also on the 4th there will be an event for the kids as STARS will have the Babe’s Hot Dog’s World Famous Big Wheel Races that will be held at intermission. Adult tickets (age 13 to 59) cost $12, senior citizens tickets (age 60 and older) cost $10, children tickets (age 5 to 12) cost $2, and children 4 and under are free.

Remember as always “Come for the Excitement” and “Leave with the Memories”!!
