Sounds like you have a clutch free travel adjustment problem. Clutches in 1000cc Midgets don't come under much abuse and should last forever if adjusted properly. Drop your oil pan and clean it real good>>>also drop your pick up and clean it also>>back flush it. Change your oil and filter>>>> that fiber will destroy an engine very quickly. Might want to change your filter again after the next race and top up oil. Any large cycle shop would have the parts you need and they all ship about the same>>>sounds like you need next day air for next week. While you don't need high performance parts>>a high performance kit like Barnes might be cheaper than OEM. You did replace the hydraulic clutch right? Check and doble check your free travel at the leaver. Honest Dad himself |

Castrol doesn't recommend their GTX for oil bath clutch use either, but I believe they make an oil for bikes. Bob

Sounds to me you are using a oil that is not designed for 4 stroke motorcycle. There are lots of good brands out there with everybody having there favorite one. I have used Valvoline 20W50 4 stroke motorcycle in my R1 Yamaha with absolutely no clutch or engine trouble whatsoever.
Stock clutches are more than good enough for 1000 cc midget. Just remember plenty of free travel and use a motor oil that is designed for a 4 stroke motorcycle not car, truck or ATV and you will not have any trouble. Bobby Layne |

We have used a whole lot of different performance oils in our car. Both automotive and motorcycle, with no ill effects on the clutch. Motorcycle oil designed for wet clutches has a friction modifier in it much like is used in anti lock rear ends and automatic transmissions. It actually aids in allowing the paper of the clutch linings slip just a little bit when engaging.
Ever driven a posi-traction that needed the additive in it>>>> they tend to chatter and snap and bang when going around turns, a little 2 ounce squirt bottle of friction additive fixes it right up. We even use rear end posi-trac friction modifier stuff in Ford automatic transmissions when they chatter on the 2-3 up-shifts. I would not worry about the oil I would worry about adjustment of the clutch cable>>>also a dragging>>sticking>>or binding cable can also cause you a lot of grief. Honest Dad himself

We always use Valvoline 20w50 motorcycle oil for wet clutch, Never ever had an issue. Ran 03, 08 GSXR 1000 MOTORS.
DAD is right about clutch adjustment. Very important. |
