I traded slide jobs with him for about 3 laps at the Chili Bowl one year and finished right in front of him. The next night, I was walking up the bleachers and he was sitting on the end. He looked at me and said with a grin, "that was a lot if fun last night." If I never accomplished anything else, things like that have made my racing complete.

I already got to see Steve Kinser's farewell race in Terre Haute at the 1994 U.S. Dirt Nationals. 20 years later, I will get a chance to see his farewell season. Hats off to the The King!

Lets also not forget he won a big IROC race back in the day when everyone laughed and said "the sprint car guy" had no business being there. The KING!

Steve has always been my racing hero. I got his wing panel back in 98 at Eldora. It was the April show and his throttle hung going into 1. Glad that I didn't ever get rid of it!

A little "shout out" to Karl Kinser might be in order as well. I'm sure he taught Steve so much and he gave Steve the best ride in the business for years. Scott Gerkin was tutored by Karl as well and helped Steve continue to win. I hope Steve, and Sammy as well, can both run up front a lot this year and race the hell out of each other a few more times----for the win.

Sadly, we all knew this day would eventually come. Wow!!, what a driver ! Looking forward to seeing you behind the wheel one more time in Vegas, baby! Best to you and I hope you continue to be a presence even if you don't drive.

MY greatest memory of watching him was at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. He was a 1/2 lap behind Sammy and didn't gain an inch the entire race. On the last lap going into 3 (hitting the cushion which you don't do there) pass Sammy for the win.
