front axle length

Trying to figure out how wide of an axle I can go with on an upright??

I've seen 44 and 45's mostly ran on uprights these days.

Chassis has 28 inch bar so im thinking atleast 48 in axle.

Most axles I've seen are 44", except Henchcraft. He uses a 42" axle, then uses 1" less backspacing on the wheels to get the same track width.

If we are talking front end....I suggest a 44 or 45, depending on where the shock tower sits. A 48 inch will make the car very tight unless you used 5 off wheels on the front.
