I would like to thank everyone for their good wishes. You really don't know how much it means. The same is true with my Facebook friends. It did an awful lot to pick up my spirits. It is great to know you are not alone and reaffirms my belief that I am part of the greatest family in the world -- the racing family.

Just to give a Reader's Digest version, my kidneys are beginning to fail and I must go on dialysis. Only about eight percent of my kidney is functioning. The latest round came when a bacteria settled in my colon in December at IMIS. This damaged the kidneys. My doctor thought they were healing OK, but they stopped recovering. The impurities in my blood began building, nearly doubling in one month because the kidneys are not filtering them out. I cannot sustain life without dialysis in the near future.
I met yesterday with a dialysis nurse. There are some steps needed to be done before actually beginning dialysis. Mapping veins, etc.Tuesday night, I had a transfusion of two units of blood and was amazed at the difference. I felt better yesterday than I have in years.

Will people still see me at the races? I'm not dead yet.
But, it will force some changes in lifestyle. These are yet to be determined, but some I can anticipate.
I am looking forward to covering the Indy 500 again, the 36th consecutive year I will have been at the race.

I have one bit of advice for everyone --- if you are not feeling well, don't ignore it. It will not go away. See your doctor. Get it fixed.
