Anything special prep-wise need to be done for painting over a gelcoated fiberglass hood?

The only concern I know of is that a new hood may have traces of mold release wax present. It would be prudent to degrease and wash with soapy water before sanding. I have had no problems following the same steps as preparing metal. Minus the metal-prep step of course.:2:

If you can wash with hot water and Comet powder soap, will neutralize release agents, I always sand with 320 and a DA, hit with high build primer. It will help it stick however rocks at 90 mph will make any hood look like crap!

wash with solvent,wash with soap and water dish soap is good.
wet sand with 320 grit wet or dry paper,repair any inperfictions.
wet sand with 320. prime with p.p.g. dp 40lf lightly skuff with a
red skuff pad and paint it.
high build primer or to much paint chips easy.

agree except i use 400 grit.. all opinion though.. also us a precleaner after sanding primer to make sure all dust is gone.. some prefer an anti static precleaner, i have yet to see it make a huge difference in plastic.. more towards metal.. CP-90 is okay to use
