Sherman Shines in ASCS Canyon Hank Arnold Memorial Finale

Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (September 5, 2010) – Two-time American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman picked off his second series win of the year by topping Sunday night’s Hank Arnold Memorial finale at USA Raceway.

Sherman climbed from the tenth starting position to snare his 28th career ASCS Canyon Region triumph, vaulting from fourth to second in the series points chase in the process.

Sherman took the checkered flag ahead of Saturday night Arnold Memorial winner R.J. Johnson, who rallied from 15th only to fall one position short of sweeping the weekend double atop the Tucson clay oval.

Current series point’s leader Charles Davis, Jr., claimed the show position, with Josh Pelkey and pole starter Rick Ziehl rounding out the top five. Stevie Sussex was sixth, with Chris Bonneau, Mike Martin, Brian Hosford and 21st-starter Dalten Gabbard completing the top ten.

Martin, Davis and Justin Quinn won Sunday night’s heat races.

Isaac “The Great” Zaragoza won his seventh consecutive 20-Lap feature as he continues his relentless attack on the USA Factory Stock division. Zaragoza moved from his fourth position to lead the way as a three car battle brewed for the runner spot with Josh Partain, Trevor Hidalgo and Kalvin Catlin filling the top four. Zaragoza with another win has stretched his point lead over Hidalgo and Larry Leetch as the season nears the crowing of the Champion at the Carl Trimmer Classic on October 16th.

El Paso’s Christy Georges returned to USA Raceway to capture the 20-Lap X-Mod feature with Saturday night winner Dickie Gorham and Brandon Farrington filling the podium. Dusty Gauthier, who finished fourth, took advantage of Ricky McGuire’s engine troubles as he jumped into the championship point’s lead.

Josh Shipley and Bud Grossenbacher claimed victory in the Arizona Modified Midget and Southwest Modlite features.
