Racing, Fireworks, And Destruction To Thrill Fans Saturday Night At Macon Speedway
Eve Of Destruction III A Great Event For Families

(Macon, IL) Families looking for great entertainment this weekend need to mark Macon Speedway on their calendar for Saturday night. In addition to great racing from six familiar divisions of cars, Eve Of Destruction III will bring fans to their feet for a car rollover contest and a Race 'Em Wreck 'Em event. Fireworks will end the night's show, all presented by Dale's Southlake Pharmacy.

Eve Of Destruction, in its third straight year at the track, has shifted to a couple of new events this year, the rollover contest and Race 'Em Wreck 'Em. The rollover contest will feature two or three cars with brave pilots trying to see who can have the most impressive rollover off of a ramp. That event is set for intermission.

Toward the end of the night, Macon Speedway will have its first ever Race 'Em Wreck 'Em event. The race will be 15 laps and feature compact sized cars with very few rules. The one main rule is, each driver must make contact with another car at least one every half a lap. In essence, it's a demo derby circle track race.

From a racing standpoint, six classes will fill the night with on track competition, led by the UMP Pro Late Model class. The division has seen 35 different drivers race at the track this season with New Berlin, IL's Tommy Sheppard, Jr. leading the points. Sheppard has won two features this year and holds a 52 point edge on Jeff Reed, Jr., of Blue Mound, IL. Cody Maguire, Jake Little, and Roben Huffman complete the top five in points. Jake Little has five feature wins, Ryan Little has two, Sheppard two, and Matt Taylor, Rudy Zaragoza, Myles Moos, and Kyle Logue have one each.

The Billingsley Elite Wash UMP Modified class will be back on track this Saturday night with a fairly tight point battle at the top. 2016 champion, Curt Rhodes of Taylorville, IL, leads the way by just 28 over Mason City, IL's Austin Lynn. Alan Crowder, Jeff Graham, and Blake Thompson round out the top five in points. Rhodes and Brian Lynn have claimed three feature wins each, while Rodney Standerfer and Mike Harrison have won two each. Austin Lynn, Tim Hancock, and Ken Schrader have recorded one win apiece.

When it comes to tight point battles, the UMP B-Mod class is the one to highlight. Godfrey, IL's Cody Stillwell is the point leader by just eight over Tim Hancock. Stillwell has won just two features compared to Hancock's seven but Hancock has also had a few dnf's from some bad mechanical luck, while Stillwell has been consistent. Jerry Thompson, Tom Riech, and Tim Riech complete the top five in points. Other feature winners include Tim Hancock, Jr. (2) and Richie Gabriel (1).

Decatur, IL driver Brian Dasenbrock leads the points in the Macon UMP Street Stock class. Dasenbrock has yet to win a feature but has 13 top tens in 14 races. Shawn Ziemer, of Boody, IL, is second in the class, 30 points behind Dasenbrock. Jason Scrimpsher, Jeremy Nichols, and Garrett Lewis are top five competitors. Nichols has won eight features in the class, Terry Reed two, and Ziemer, Nick Macklin, and Dave Crawley, Jr. one each.

Rounding out the regular track divisions will be the UMP Hornets. Decatur, IL's Dustin Reed leads the points by 60 over Lincoln, IL's Cook Crawford. Marty Sullivan, Paul Peters, and Adam Webb complete the top five. Webb has won five features, Jeremy Reed three, and Dustin Reed and Ryan Cantrell have won two each.

A semi-regular division, the Beach House Micros are also on schedule. The winged 600cc outlaw Micro class has had great fields of cars at each race they've competed this year and have put on great shows.

Saturday, August 12 pit gates will open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, competitor pill draw will end at 5:50, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free.
