Our First Scheduled Guest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ![]() Pippa Mann Has broken many gender barriers throughout her racing career, and in 2009 the 24-year-old driver from England will become the first female driver in the 10-plus year history of Panther Racing. Mann will team with Martin Plowman this season to form Panther's Firestone Indy Lights duo. Her accomplishments include becoming the first female to not only race in the World Series by Renault 3.5, but also the first to earn a pole position and score a point. Last season Pippa stared in the World Series by Renault 3.5 Championship, Pippa has also drove in several other series including Formula Renault 2.0 UK, Formula Renault Eurocup, and at various levels in karting. Off the track, Mann found time to master a foreign language, becoming fluent in Italian when she moved to Italy in 2001. Pippa has also taken to writing, producing works for numerous motoring journals. She also enjoys listening to music, playing squash, following her favorite soccer team, AC Milan and, of course, shopping. Tied for 19th all time in USAC Midget Car wins with 23 and won the National Championship in 1972. Pancho is 4th all time with 42 USAC Sprint Cars wins and is a 2 time USAC National Champion in 1974 and 1976. Capping his opportunity to win the USAC Triple Crown was accomplished when he tied 19th all time with 5 USAC Silver Crown wins and the USAC National Championship in 1978 thus a Triple Crown title. Pancho was the first driver to win all three USAC National titles. He has since been inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1990 as well as the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1991. His career to him to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1974. He drove his first Indianapolis 500 in 1974. He finished seventh, and was awarded the Rookie of the Year. He finished third in the 1982 Indianapolis 500 behind the now-famous duel between Gordon Johncock and Rick Mears. In 1985, Carter drove the brand new Buick V6 engine to the pole position of the 1985 Indianapolis 500. He retired with mechanical problems after completing just six laps, becoming the first pole-sitter since Cliff Woodbury to finish dead-last. From his first qualification in 1974 through his last race in 1990 (missed the race in 1988 after crashing during his qulaifying run) Pancho had 6 top 7 finishes with his best finish a 3rd in 1982. From 1985-1995, Pancho's best finish in NASCAR was a seventeenth place finish at the Michigan International Speedway. In 1995, Pancho also raced two Craftsman Truck races.
