MURAL BEING PLANNED TO HONOR BOB JENKINS

Liberty, Indiana (April 18, 2022)………The residents of the town of Liberty, Indiana are pitching in to support an effort to honor one of their very own, Bob Jenkins, the original voice of ESPN’s Thunder series of USAC racing on television between 1979-2002, who passed away in August of 2021 at the age of 73.

Funds are now being raised for a permanent mural to be painted onto a two-story building in Jenkins’ hometown of Liberty, where he was born and raised.* Thus far, the mock-up is not the finished product as they are working with renowned artist Pamela Bliss to create an incredible work of art featuring Jenkins, who also anchored countless IndyCar and NASCAR events on television and radio throughout his illustrious broadcasting career.

Finances are needed to proceed with the project and the funds raised will provide compensation to the artist and any required maintenance over time.

The artist, Bliss, has previously created murals for such Indiana natives Eva Kor, Reggie Miller and John Mellencamp, and a sampling of her artist gallery can be found at www.pamelabliss.gallery.

“If you are any type of racing fan, you know the voice of Bob Jenkins,” said Melissa Browning, UCDC Director.* “Since the late seventies, his voice brought live racing events, as well as commentary to radio listeners and TV viewers alike.”

“Bob never forgot where he came from, a small community 70 miles southeast of Indianapolis, Liberty, Ind.,” Browning continued. *“His cherished community would like to create this heartfelt tribute to a humble man that truly believed ‘he was a race fan that just got lucky.’ *However, this project depends upon the ease of access and transparency of this page and its success. *The mural will honor his life and encourage our youth to Dare to Dream that all things in life our possible.”
