MAY 6TH – LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY – $2,500 TO WIN / $250 TO START
Torrential rains last weekend left the Lawrenceburg Speedway grounds saturated, even flooded in some areas, forcing track officials to postpone all racing activity for one week. The 5th Annual King of the Midwest Sprints race will now be held on Saturday night May 6th. This event features an increased purse with the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints paying $2,500 to win and $250 to start the 25-lap feature. With a pair of point races already in the books, Justin Owen leads the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints point standings after strong finishes of 2nd and 4th to start the season. Owen, the 2012 Lawrenceburg Speedway Rookie of the Year, stands just 10 points in front of his teammate Michael Fischesser, and another 5 points ahead of 2013 Lawrenceburg Speedway Champion Shawn Westerfeld. Jordan Kinser sits 25 points behind Westerfeld, with JJ Hughes another 25 in arrears. Two point races have produced two first-time winners this year. Landon Simon started off the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints season with a dominating win on April 8th and Nick Bilbee is the most recent winner, visiting the Budweiser Winner’s Circle on April 15th. Chris Windom opened the 2017 Lawrenceburg Speedway season on April 1st with a win in Amsoil USAC sprint competition. Sean Buckley of Jackslash Media, Inc. will be on hand Saturday for Round 2 of the Indiana Sprint Car Series on MAVTV presented by Fatheadz Eyewear. Buckley will be recording the nights racing for a future airing on MAVTV’s Dirty30 television show. Thomas Meseraull leads Brent Beauchamp, Jarett Andretti, Brady Short, and Jon Stanbrough in the Indiana Sprint Car Series standings after a win earlier this season at the Lincoln Park Speedway. Tyler Thomas is the defending ISCS Champion. King of the Midwest Sprints In addition to the increased purse Saturday night there will be a slight change to the standard Lawrenceburg Speedway race format. A blind pill draw will continue to be used to set the heat race groups, but lap times gathered during practice will set the heat race lineups. Cars will be lined straight up by time with the fastest four cars in each heat race inverted. Heat race finish will still determine the lineups for the B Main(s) and feature with the top two finishers in each heat race (if five or more heats only the winners) redrawing for their starting position at the front of the feature field.
