This would have been 1990 or 1991, Joe was leading the feature. His throttle was sticking but he kept pulling it back up. Well going into turn 3 it didnt come unsutck. He launched off of the banking and went nose first into the ground and the car launched it self into the trees. I would guess it went about 30 to 35 feet into the air. He came down upside down with the throttle still stuck. Fell down through the trees and my cousin Danny and I belive Scott Welch got there and shut it off. Joe broke a collar bone I belive but did not get in the bus. A lucky night indeed!

Bob

I miss those 40 lappers!!!!!!!!

I too was there the night Joe flipped into the trees off of turn three. I was in the pits helping a friend of mine with his car. I don't think I've ever seen a car bounce as high as Joe did after the car hit the ground the first time. Each time it hit it seemed to bounce higher and further. I remember the motor running wide open for what seemed like eternity before it either blew or or got shut off. As I remember, Joe was stuck in a tree several feet off the ground. The "safety crew" got to Joe just a few seconds before several guys from the pits did. I don't know who did what, but somehow Joe's belts got released and he fell from the car to the ground. To say he was HOT would be a major understatement! Joe did have a broken collarbone, but that was his only injury. The car was not so fortunate.

Mr. Jarrett, i have a bone to pick with u on your statement on here. You say " i went into the corner a little to straight and pushed up and he ran over my right front"??? Last lap/last/corner in a heat race that 5 cars make the feature? Where were you going to go? To 1st ?? Not a chance. Look at the pictures that people have taken. The left side nerf bar on the 34 is almost to the cockpit by your "push!" Could you have got out the gas, got it right and finished in 3rd or 2nd to make the feature? You decided not. You destroyed my race car/motor and everything else. You want sympathy?? Not from me. I own the car that you did wrong. You should ' MAN' up. If not, so be it. You did wrong and you know it. "MAN UP "

I am just glad that Brent was ok. I think that this is the second time this year that they have had a car destroyed.
