Instead of growin' a bigger pie were fightin' over the slices thats left !! Ring a bell ? Sad ..... Everyone suffers under poor management (i.e.guvmint). Whatever happened to leadership instead of beancounters & lawyers. So goes the racing "deal". We'll be praying for it !

Belle-Clair had 30 Midgets on a Wed. Night for the Arnie Knepper Memorial.
Should have been there Don. The show might not have seemed like it was going well from the computer chair, but in person it was a Great and well run show(Both classes over by 10:15), packed house under a county fair setting. Just like "How it used to be" as the saying always goes.
Not the closest battle ever at Belleville, but Kuhn was lurking the whole time. Excellent track and two and three wide threw the pack the entire show.

Siner and Brown always run a very efficient program, no doubt.

First of all I want to get back to the issue at hand on this thread - The Hut 100. I thought earlier this summer I heard Kevin Miller say that the USAC midget division is their premier division. If so, why did they cancel the Hut? Well, I can think of a few reasons, but the main one is that, unlike during the 80's when we had over 60 entries, this race will not draw over 25 cars. And, the reason is that these $40,000.00 engines can't twist that high for 50 miles. The Belleville Nationals had the same issue this year with motors popping left and right. Let's face it, it's just too expensive.
I will say this... I am so thankful that I got to race midgets during a time when you could actually afford to do it. If it were today, I would have jumped straight to a sprint car and ran the local tracks. I don't think this problem will ever get fixed, given who runs this premier USAC division. And let me explain why...
Let's not forget who killed the affordable VW engine - USAC who changed the engine rules so that a Cosworth, Pontiac, Chevy, Buick, Toyota, and Oh yea... MOPAR, etc. could compete with the inexpensive horizontally opposed little 140VW.
USAC, I don't feel the least bit sorry for you, you earned this low car count problem and created the need to have a $40,000.00 inline engine.

Maybe USAC should have let Tom Helfrich have the Hut like he wanted and the race would have had a good, stable home. Some people think that the Hut can only be ran at Terre Haute but TSS would have been a fantastic STABLE HOME for the race, something it desparetly needs. Tom
