FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 11, 2009

SCHEDULE ENHANCEMENTS ANNOUNCED

The United States Auto Club announced today schedule enhancements for both the National Sprint Car Series and Mopar National Midget Series.

The scheduled Midget series race for September 12th at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track is being replaced by a National Sprint Car series race. The traditional “Hut 100” midget race is being postponed for 2009.

With the addition of a National Sprint Car Series point event on September 12th, the August 22nd Lawrenceburg $10,000 to win “Dick Gaines Memorial” will be a non-points special event.

As a midget lover, it's hard for me to see that as an "enhancement."

This could be interesting for the next few days.

This thread will be three pages minimum.

I'm sorry for the midgets, but glad for the sprints.

The regular USAC bashers will find this totally unacceptable I'm sure.

...and I would love to know how turning the Dick Gaines memorial into a non-points "special event" is an enhancement

Seems more like an incentive to keep all the big names out in the mid-west chasing TnT's Shuman 10K

But what do I know, I clearly don't contain the infinite wisdom that the USAC brass do

Is the three pages for Don Moore posts only or the entire thread?

Why not just have a $10,000 to win non-sanctioned race for the Dick Gaines Memorial. If its non-points why does USAC need to be involved? Is the sanctioning fee the same for a points and non-points race?

It's kind of how when Wind Tunnel (which I used to like) enhanced there program when they went from four one hour shows Monday through Thursday to one one hour show on Sundays.

Nothing speaks louder about the sad state and financial feasibility of modern-day midget racing than this. Something's gotta be done.
