SC96,

I know for a fact that the gold crown caes had an adverse effect on the champ cars. After the gold crown cars ran ORP, fans wouldn't come to the champ car race there the next year. They said the gold crown race was so bad they weren't going back.

When I told these people it was real champ cars again, they didn't believe me , so they didn't go.The sad part was the fact these guys were casual fans, and with a good product would have gone to more races. Unfortunately, they are now gone for good, and these are the fans you want to bring aboard.

As for the 2 Jason's, they were brought back trying to save a lot of hides, I hope it isn't too late.If they had made Jason Smith president instead of Helmling, things wouldn't have gone down the tubes. Woulda, Coulda, shoulda, I guess.

I own both cars a goldcrown and a silvercrown pavement and without more races on the schedual the series is going to suffer period. I got involved in this div because i enjoy the people its a very tight nit group. But Time is not on our side very few new owners the older owners are retiring and there are not enough new owners to replace them. Let alone grow so if you want to see silvercrown dirt and pavement around for years to come more people better get involved.

I think the post was no local support to help with the car count. There are not any SC cars that run a weekly series. Thus, the national teams are the only teams that you count on.

I'm glad somebody is capable of comprehending what I write since that's all I do and don't attend races. Like Jonr said, there are no weekly tracks that run Silver Crown cars, just like I said. How do you expect a strong car count when everybody has to tow from IN to AZ etc.

Spridge's statement was made in a conversation we had about why USAC totally ignores 90% of Illinois tracks. If USAC really does feel that way then I guess being an Illinois citizen my money isn't good enough for USAC either.
What do you want to hear? That USAC wants to run at Farmer City, Macon, Fairbury, Jacksonville, etc. as the cornerstone tracks of their series? I've been to those tracks, and they ARE NOT the jewels of the country. They're fine, and they're good for regional racing...but there are a lot of other, BETTER tracks that I'd love to see USAC attend.

They don't NEED more races. 35ish races on each of the Midget and Sprint Car schedules is PLENTY! Why would they go to every little dump in the country (and I use dump in the nicest terms - I like dumps, and often, the racing there is the best) to book races when they already have full schedules? They are and SHOULD be seeking out the best tracks/facilities out there to book quality races with a higher likelihood of a larger purse in the future. I don't see that happening at ANY of those central Illinois tracks. Now, if you want to lobby for more races at Granite City, including the sprint cars, or a visit to Pevely, Lake Ozark, Lernerville, Lima, Joliet (with a good surface), Lincoln, etc.

I've been to most of those Illinois tracks and I'll probably visit them again for a POWRi show or a MSCS show, but what races would you like to see USAC take off the schedule to support more races in your backyard? Quit griping and support the races and sanctioning bodies that DO race close to you, if that's what you want.

If anything, USAC completely ignores the PA tracks. Port Royal, Selinsgrove, and Williams Grove(to name a few) are plenty big to host a silver crown event. The problem may be who they would get in the stands.

I sure hope you don't work for the railroads. You can sure derail things pretty good.

:O: Thank you Spridge. You state so clrealy what is exactly wrong with USAC. They think their shi*t doesn't stink. When USAC stops this "Holier than Thou and the NASCAR mentality" crusade they may get a little bit (minor at best) credibility back.

Dumps huh? Why don't you contact the promoters of those tracks and tell them that? I am sure Hammer and West would LOVE to be told their tracks are dumps.

I took it upon myself Spridge to lookup the email addresses for those tracks:

Spoonriver Speedway: Denney03@sbcglobal.net

Morgan County Speedway: http://www.morgancountyspeedway.com/contactus.html

Farmer City email: truspeedinc45@yahoo.com

American Legion Speedway: fairburyspeedway@hotmail.com

ME....no..wait........i'd be in the pits
and if they wanted to make an eastern tour outta the deal, there is new egypt, bridgeport, middletown, lebanon valley....more than enough tracks out this way to make it worthwhile.
as well as a few cars that reside in the general area. i am sure they would appreciate a couple races where they wouldnt have to tow 12-16 hours or better to race.

You guys keep forgetting why they went to the new car....

Tracks no longer wanted to pay the silvercrown purse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you that don't know....it costs a hell of a lot of money to run a pavement car. I'm going to say it costs 2 to 3 times more a week to run.

Car counts and tracks were dropping before the switch. Here's your chance to support the class. We will see if the owners are going to be able to fund these cars with lower purses.

Here's an idea  What do you so called fans think about paying a 3x greater entry into the stands? Not going to happen...right?

I will just say if Terre Haute needs to charge $5 or $10 more to make the silver crown race happen I will gladly pay the additional money to watch them race there.Hell the outlaws charge $30 for there no passing train racing they do anymore and I will not even think about going to one of there events at all.
