The idea that they would "fix" a race is completely absurd. Too many car owners have too much money tied up in their operations to go along with it. The drivers wouldn't go with the notion that "it's __________ turn to win this week". Not to mention that I doubt Nascar, and their independent contractors (owners, drivers and crews) would be able to hide a conspiracy that large. Having said that, the timing of caution flags when certain drivers are about to go a lap down or are in the "lucky dog" position opens them up for scrutiny and potential criticism of their practices. I haven't watched a Nascar race in years and don't miss it one bit.

It's not nascar that I can't stand, they can do whatever they want. It's the Speed channel. Showing all this practice and they wrapped up 5 days of the Chili Bowl in one hour drives me crazy.

Unfortunately, I guess, that fault lies with the dirt sprint fans. Viewer numbers are what sells the advertising space and ultimately what programs are aired.

Apparently, there are too many sprint fans who would rather come on a forum and ***** about the TV schedule than would take the time to watch dirt racing when it is actually on the tube!

In other words, did NASCAR turn their heads when Jr., had a restrictor plate with slightly larger holes just like USAC supposedly turned their heads the night A.J. Foyt allegedly showed up at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with a 350 from his Chevy dealership stuffed into his sprinter when everyone else was running the 318? Foyt had been protested for jumping the start at Terre Haute earlier in the month and the USAC boys were supposedly tired of listening to one driver pop off his mouth and decided to let A.J. teach him a lesson.
At least, that's what I heard at the time.
The problem is proving it.

If NASCAR actually does things like this, all they can do is put a driver in a positiion to win. He still has to finish first.

Exactly, but IMHO its worse. NASCAR's exploitation of the death of Earnhardt, Sr. for economic and promotional gain if not immoral is certainly unethical. It seems to tap into some sort of twisted sense of how to honor a person which sems to reside in the psyche of many but not all NASCAR "followers".

I just think it is so "Ironic" that Michael Waltrip hasn't run a truck in how many years, hops into one for a one race deal that is on the day of the anniversary year of his first win at Daytona and Earnhardt's death and wins the race on the last lap. He did although run a good and smart race staying up front and out of trouble. Now you talk about good PR for NASCAR you can't get any better than that.
