Instead of saying "who cares", you should thank God, *****, Buddah, or just fate, whatever your personal belief happens to be, that it was only the vertebrae and not the spinal cord itself that was injured.
As a paraplegic, I can attest to the life changing impact this has.
If his spine had been damaged, he potentially could have lost the use of both arms and legs, and like the proverbial iceburg, that is only what is visible to the casual observer and just the beginning of the problems to be overcome.
Perhaps in your spare time, you might spend a little time volunteering in the rehab section of the nearest Veterans Hospitals to put a little compassion in your views of our hero's both on the racetrack and on the battle fields fighting for our freedom.
