I loved old Kokomo too, but I just feel like there's absolutely nothing bad to say about the new design either. And I think "destroyed" is a bit of overkill. It's much different, to be sure, but it's still Kokomo. Old or new, it is and always will be my number one. The other four, in no order, are:

New Bremen
Knoxville
Williams Grove
Ascot

I like both Twin Cities and Bloomington. The first SC race I saw was at TC and a car flipped and hung in the fence. That was a very interesting sight. I would love to see a SC race at Eldora. I've never been there.

Ascot Park, circa early to mid-70's
Palm trees, GOOD food, a pond in the middle (in california, you have to WANT a pond...) And we have not even got to the racing yet.... Anybody remember Walk Kennedy in that red white and black car with the big block Chrysler? Of course we had Dean and Bubby, but also Jeff Heywood, Eddie Wirth... just so many great drivers and so many amazing nights of racing.

And if that was not enough for ya, we had the AMA Flat track bikes on Friday Nights, and the Midgets on the 1/4 mile on Sundays! And each of those shows was just as good as the Sprinters. Growing up in that area, it was many years until I even SAW a race someplace else, and only then did I learn what it meant to have a "bad" racetrack. Up until then, i thought a bad track meant there were a few ruts... My first run down to El Centro for the day race was all I needed to see to know how special Ascot was.

There will never be another Ascot.

Sheehan's little Springfield, probably because that is also where I first got into racing. But what a classic little track and what talent you could see on any given weekend. Does anyone know whatever happened to the steps leading up into the bar area, remember they were made of welded together flathead ford heads? Lets keep supporting what we have now or we may be missing more of them down the road!

I have never been to Knoxville and wish I had seen the Nationals in the late 60's or 70's. The atmosphere must have been really laid back with teams pitting in the barns, poker games going on, drivers partying, etc. Much different now from what I hear. Would also liked to have seen a race at New Bremen when it was dirt. I stopped to look at the track in 2004 and it was strange as the stands, booths, etc. were all still standing. The track was right there with nice grass over it. Seemed like the track was just waiting to get worked and then we could go racing. Heard stands and such were torn down very recently.

1. Ascot

2. Atomic Speedway Bullsgap, TN. (saw midgets there in the early eighties AWSOME)

3. Port Royal, PA. (think non-wing cars would put on a good show)

4. Reading, PA.

5. Placerville, CA. (raced there in '93 with my brother always thought non-wing cars would be good there)
