I have still seen this done at some race tracks. Mostly done at tracks that have races other than open wheel. I think that it has gone by the way side in order to save time and speed up the program. I certainly find this more entertaining than those idiots with NASCRAP who act like they have never won in their life with the stupid burnouts.:headbang: I am still waiting for the day when some innocent bystander gets injuried or killed and then that will stop also.

A lot of the dirt guys would rather do doughnuts than take a lap with the flag, unfortunately. As far as NAPCAR is concerned what is the old saying? "Act like you've been there before." That's another old saying that went out like a burned out light bulb. We are living in the "it's all about me- notice me" age.

This is still done in Australia. And you dont stop. Just roll by and grab it. To me, the midget, excuse me, speedcar racing in Australia still seems to have some of the old flare to it. Some good some bad. After the Australian Title and after the trophy presentation (WITH TROPHY GIRLS) they put the top 3 in the back of a truck and drove around the track. I dont think any of the fans left. You cant do all these things at every race, but I like the parade lap with the flag.

Good Post Don. Great old/new idea. I would like to see all the A main cars lined up on the front Straight and have each driver and car announced starting from the back to the front with a wave from the flagman when the car and driver are announced with car info and driver . Sure it takes a bit more time but adds a bit of suspence to the start of the A main.
Starting 11th in the #75 Gary Stanton/chevy. from Phoenix, AZ The Fly'n Shu..RON SHUMAN."checkerd flag waves behind his car" He won the main event last week folks out at ASCOT ....Can he come from the inside of the 6th row this week and win 2 in a row? |

Luv the idea of the cars lined up on the front straight with driver intros. This has been done for some races at Sun Prairie. Loved going down as a fan and poking my nose thru the fence getting an upclose view of the drivers and cars before the feature. Good idea but would take some time to orchestrate and a promoter/org with a command of how to move things along quickly. POWRi is the best in the nation at presenting race programs with no nonsense with a stiff hand.

The trophy presentations to the young ones is a great tradition....as well as the driver intros. (The Silver Crown division still continues this today). The flag victory lap is an old tradition that I miss as well.
I know I'm a tad 'old school' but I'm thinking these are the things that help make shows 'events', rather than just another race night. I vote to bring em' back.... ![]() |

With 9 classes of racing and the variety of mini stock and street stock class races taking 1/2 hour or more per race leaves no time to do a victory lap until maybe the races are over at 1:30! Thats how they do it in the south.:checkered:
