Tim, Thank you for pointing that out. I do not agree with their dicission, but it is their party. We at SCORA will run our part of the program and those that feel they want to take a chance in that type situation, it is your deciaion. I feel if you participate in SCORA you should get paid accordingly and if you compete in the other series you should also get paid accordingly and not get penalized or shorted for running both series. This is my opinoin. Sam Stockon Sr. SCORA president

The SCORA website only says what time the pit gate opens. I am trying to find out what time the grandstand & bleacher gates open.

wow hot laps at 4 Jmo
*** hot laps at 4 will this place ever get there chit together and daytime racing again you have lights there so line them up and start at the normal time saturday night just keep the program running instead of screwing aroundI know it took over 4 and a half hours to run 37 cars for the hulman classic, what is there goal here to see if they can make it any more pucked up than allison did before he left there. One more than I am paying to watch racing on the big half mile track so hopefully this time they will be able to race on more than the bottom half.

The program is starting two hours earlier than normal for several reasons. The number one reason is to be able get all three complete shows in and get the fans and racers out at a reasonable time. Many of them have long tows to get back home.

There are other factors that went into that decision as well:
1. There is a curfew that no one ever wants to come close to again.
2. Two sprint car divisions that require all cars to be pushed for starts and red flags. (We have added additional push trucks for this show to address that issue.)
3. An issue with the setting sun that absolutely blinds drivers going down the backstretch for about 45 minutes. (We plan to have all of the preliminary races completed before that occurs and will use that safety break for the sun to set to: do any needed track prep before the A-mains begin; take care of the required sponsor obligations; heat race trophy presentations; driver interviews and photo opportunities for the media; etc. This will also allow the crews to get the cars ready for the A-Mains. Once the sun sets, we will see three A-mains.
4. There has been a recurring issue with water in the tunnel that reappeared at the Tony Hulman Classic a couple of weeks ago. There are usually over 1000 people in the infield. Should that be an issue again, short 5-10 minute breaks for fan crossover to and from the infield are required between series events.
5. The Action Track is a 75 foot wide by 1/2 mile long track. That is nearly twice as wide and twice as long as most other short tracks in the Tri-State area. That means there is nearly four times as much track to deal with when addiing water to reduce dust or doing any wheel packing. That will obviously take a little more time than a quarter mile track.

The MSCS show was postponed due to rain and added to this program. I for one am glad they are willing to make adjustments in their normal schedule to accommodate both programs and get everyone out at a reasonable time. The promoters do not own this track, they only have promotional rights to the six special events at THAT, so many things (like water in the tunnel) are out of their control.

It wasn't that long ago we were all signing petitions hoping we would be able to continue to watch racing at the Action Track instead of it becoming a shopping center. Let's focus on what is important here. The weather forecast looks great for Saturday and we will be able to watch two divisions of non wing sprint car races and a late model series race all in one night at Terre Haute.

Thanks to Mike King, Brian Dorsett, Davy Hamilton & Chris Novotney along with dozens of volunteers who put in countless hours to make this a reality. They have stepped up to the plate in a big way that many of you are not aware of, not only in racing, but in giving back to the community. Thanks also to the three sanctioning bodies that are working together to put this show on. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am looking forward to another night at the Action Track.

From the THAT web site:

Action Track set to host huge Triple Header June 13th
Monday, June 8, 2009
What might be the best racing bargain this summer in the Midwest comes to the Terre Haute Action Track on Saturday, June 13th.

On that day the legendary half-mile clay oval plays host to 3 big events, with the running of the SCORA Sprint Cars and Indiana Late Models in the UNION Hospital Classic, along with the rain delayed Republic Services Don Smith Classic presented by Indiana State University, featuring the Midwest Sprint Car Series.

"With infield tickets starting at just ten dollars, bleacher seats at $15 and free ticket coupons available for kids 12 and under for bleacher and grandstand seats, I'm not sure you're going to find a better bang for your racing buck at any track," said Mike King of Action Promotions.

"From the time hot laps get underway (shortly after 4pm) fans will see non-stop action," added King. "Two different Sprint Car series along with Late Models will make for a great show."

The June 13th event marks the first visit to the Action Track by the SCORA Sprint Cars, while the Indiana Late Model Series will also be making it's first ever appearance on the historic half mile. Robert Ballou will be looking for his second straight "Don Smith Classic" win in the Midwest Sprint Car Series event.

The Action Track ticket office is scheduled to open at 3pm on raceday, with advance reserved grandstand tickets available by phone at 812-236-7951.

"Coming on the heels of what was a fantastic First Financial Tony Hulman Classic presented by Clabber Girl, I can't wait to see three features on the 13th," said King.

Fans can get coupons for free kids tickets (12 and under) for grandstand and bleacher seating at First Financial Bank locations, online at Mywabashvalley.com, or just present your Kroger Plus card at the Action Track ticket office at time of purchase. Adult purchase is required to receive free kids tickets. The popular Infield Family Pass will also be available, as two adults and up to 4 children 12 and under can get into the infield for just $25.

Fan gates will open at 4pm, and the racing action will be virtually non-stop, with the first Midwest Sprint Car Series hot lap session set to begin just after 4pm.

Fans will also enjoy the music of a popular Wabash Valley group during the first "HI-99 Sundown Concert Series" event. The Midwest Playboys will play live as the action takes a break from 8:30 until approximately 9:15 for the sun to set in the western sky. The setting sun presents a huge vision problem for drivers trying to set-up for turn 3, and rather than risk tearing up race cars Action Promotions, in cooperation with the participating series, have planned downtime for the sunset period.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't open the stands at the same time as the pits. This would give the families that don't go in the pits a chance to get settled in. I'm also not to sure on how this 4:00pm starting deal is going to work out but we'll see. I know what the reason is because I got into big wreck in the modified heat last year because no one could see due to the sun going down. The main concern of mine is dust and when you add in the sun factor it makes the dust seem 10x worse but like I said we will see. Gonna be a long night. The good news is the fans at P'ville could make over to watch the features.. Can't wait to see all S.C.O.R.A guys there.
