That was a great looking sprinter and I was a Pancho Indy fan. Never heard him referred to as the "Bopper" though, but I like the nickname. Wish I had a copy of the photo though anyone know where I can find this one or something close to it.

The Bopper is Steve Stapp, Carter's car owner. The unique nose on front is a Davey Brown creation for a roadster that Stapp modified for his car.
Most people don't realize it, I know I didn't, but the No. 11 sprinter that Foyt drove to his last two wins at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 1974 was also a Stapp-built chassis. I always thought it was a George Snider-built car but Stapp built the chassis while Snider put on all of the bolt-on parts in Foyt's shop. Jim Morrison |

It's easy to tell a Stapp car, just look at the cage. Leffler, King, and Stapp all had different cages.

You're right Chis. Leffler's was always a lot tighter around the head while Stapp's roll cage was a lot wider. You could pick them out easily. Bopper's cage gave a lot more room between the cage and the head than most other builders at the time.

Let me check a couple things. This is a #1 at the Terre Haute Wheels museum driven by Bettenhausen. I'll double check the other. I wasn't easy taking pics there. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...ageID=36255582

I was just curious.I really like that car.It also remindes me of a paint scheme in the #12 silver crown car that Jeff Swindell drove.
