Tractor pulls and demo derby, are really tough on race tracks. I also am very fond of the big mile tracks in the Midwest, especially Indy, Springfield, and DuQuion. I've riden a few miles around each and I'm fearful that they will dismantled some day. All three state fairgrounds see these tracks as a money pit. With state budget cuts in both IN and ILL, state fairgrounds will look to make continued cuts. Lets hope ILL gets slots into their pari-mutual horse tracks. I believe that could benefit saving these tracks. Remember that harness racing was what these tracks were originally built for. If the demand for training facilities increases state fairground can rent stalls year round thus helping offset some of the expense of maintaining the racetrack.
