Great photo! I checked my records and this was race was on Sept. 11, 1982 and the next day (Sept. 12) the Hut Hundred was held at Terre Haute. I wish they would move the Hoosier and Hut Hundreds back to September and run them back to back as they did then. When the Colts came to Indy, they started messing with the date because they felt people would attend pre-season Colt activity and it would hurt race attendance. I don't believe that would have been a factor. Race fans are race fans and football fans are football fans, and while there is no doubt a lot of people who follow both, I believe a tradition laden event such as the Hoosier Hundred would have held its own against pre-season football.
