We gave them over 52 billion
They paid us back 7 billion using some of the left over 52 billion
Please do not think I'm bashing GM.
I just do not think they should be spending our money this way. A large part of it going over seas.
The money they spend in nascar-usac is used/goes to USA workers.

From the way I read that, the rest of the money that is "owed" is in stocks in the company. In that way, yes, we do own the company, but once it's sold, it's paid back that way. They fulfilled their obligations to the tax payers, and have been on the up-swing ever since. Like I said before, if they are spending boatloads of money on this type of advertising (which is ALL it is), then how can you not be mad at the US Army, or National Guard for how much they market themselves in auto racing. Where do you think those dollars come from?

Gotta love it when someone tries to make a point, then provides a link proving themselves wrong. LOL

Ha Ha Ha you really think they are going to sell 50 billion dollars of stock? Bet you also think you can make money owning a race car. Also don't be shocked when you learn that a bank in China is going to be selling--making money off of this of stock deal. The reason I showed the link was to show we are 50 billion in the hole with tax payer money. Not the just the "paid back 7 billion loan" Its like the joke how do you make a million dollars in racing? Start with 2 million. If you look at my post, what I do not like about the "chevy indy engine" Is it's USA taxpayer money going over seas. Shipping jobs over seas.
If it was a real USA engine I would be for that. It like making all the foreign drivers US citizens, then claim you have an all USA indy field.

If you can post something that states that these engines are going to be built overseas, please post it. I haven't found anything that stated that. I very well could be wrong, and if I am, that's fine, I just haven't seen anything on it.

It's a good debate to have, and you are probably right, they probably won't sell that much stock. Everybody on here wants to ***** and complain about how the government works, and what they've done, and that's fine. But what would have happened if GM had to close all their doors. How many people does that put out? Sure, GM should have been more responsible with their money, but how many people would it have put out of a job, then where would we be?

I'm not in favor of everything the government did, but they had to do something, the economy couldn't take what was going to happen, it's in the past, and can't do anything about it now.

Why can't people just be happy that Chevy is coming back, and I would much rather see them spend some of "my money" on racing than buying themselves another private jet or something stupid.

The facts are over 50 billion tax payer dollars went into saving what (American assets were worth 4 billion)

6.8 billion has been repaid

The govt is selling their shares started monday at 22 dollars a share and by end of day was 31 dollars a share. To which China pledged to buy 2 billion

61 percent of the company is owned by the Fed Govt.
48 percent by UAW and other unions Who's pension plan is under funded by 17 billion and are seeking bailouts along with about every other union in the country.

Fine, Whatever. Pay off the 50 billion plus 17 billion pensions before you ever issue a dividend. Also yearly audits outside of GM should be conducted.

Chuck, not mad at the worker but Im damn furious about the crap they've pulled both Company and Govt.

The simple fact is that if the government had not bailed out GM, there probably would not be a GM today.

How many jobs would that have cost us, and how many tax dollars for the federal, state and local communities, paid by both the company and its employees?

We should be thankful they are still around and WILLING to use IndyCar racing to promote its products.

If folks are really upset about the "wasteful" government, then you would be willing to support across-the-board cuts for every single category in the budget and be willing to pay the taxes necessary to get the National Debt repaid. That way we don't have to bow down to foreign governments so they will buy our debt to generate the revenue necessary so we can pay our bills!!!

That's the real reason our jobs are going overseas, but the people of this nation are not willing to face the truth. Instead, they believe the smoke and mirrors our politicians use to fool them.
