Carmen's car was his own creation. The computer car was Tom Johnson from Texas.

Yep...sure do,back in the day when those West Capital (Super/ Sprint) came to run at S.J. Fairgrounds(Wayne Sue,John Viel)...thats how they looked with an ole style CAE tail.....sure were different lookin....also my home track's bein from S.j....and shown in my Avatar is 1/2 mi. at fairgrounds late 60's...me in lead of coarse!!.....

I was raised at the track on Tully road. I was born in April, and by June my Dad and Mom had me there just about every week. I have so many great memories of that track. Going to the pits after the races, sitting in racecars pretending to win the main event! I was still pretty young when they closed the track. If I remember right, they ended up putting a self storage facility where the track used to be. :thumbsdown: I haven't been back there since 1991. My parents moved to Indy a few years ago, and my Dad said that the track in Anderson reminds him of the old San Jose speedway, so we are going to try to take in a race there this year. :thumb

I didn't get down to West Capital as much as I would have liked in 76 and 77 since I was working up at Hangtown. I do recall that late in the season, some of the San Jose guys like Rescino, H. Kadeing, etc. would bring their asphalt cars and run against the SMCOA folks on the dirt. Those "no names" like Patterson, Sills, Anderson, Andreeta, Gurney, Veil, Sue, Tiner. . . . .

Man, that was some good racing. It absolutely ruined me.

When I first moved to Northern California in the mid-80's, the San Jose supers differed from sprint cars in a numver of ways; the lower frame rail had to be 2x4 rectangular tube, so a lot of the cars were sprint cars with additional tubing welded onto the lower rail; they also weighed a bit more than "sprint" cars. The big wings, were, for the most part, gone by then, since most of the cars ran conventional sprint wings. Old Open Wheel magazines had a few feature articles with pics of some of the San Jose supers from the mid-80's.....

Baylands and San Jose(Santa Clara County Fairgrounds) - I was fortunate enough to see races at both tracks.......

Can't quite recall the exact date, but remember reading an article on the Super modifieds in a magazine, with the main focus being on two drivers, Mike and Mark Sargent. Ring a bell for anyone?

I never got to Baylands. I move out of CA in 1977 to go off to college in New York. Then I ended up in Louisiana.

Yep..sure does!!....racers them selves,are the sons of Marshall/Wanda Sargent!!...of the Famed PURPLE #7 that Marshall drove to numerous Local/State Champinships thruout Northern/Central Ca. back in late 50's-60's-70's!!......got to be older big names out there with tons more memories than I can ever remember!!......Kaedings of Campbell for one!!....
