Anyone remember this? I don't. The photo just said "San Jose 1982". Looks a little top heavy. :rolling

Those just look ridiculous... seems like the wings being that large would slow the cars down and make them hard to drive... :kookoo

Anybody remember the sprint car that was designed by a computer. I saw a picture once either on the computer or speed & sport news. It made an outlaw race but only ran a few times. I'm guessing this was early-mid '90s. Anybody got a pic of this. Really strange looking.

I remember that car. I was living in Austin, Texas at the time and saw it at Devils Bowl. Looked kinda like after a crash, just a bunch of twisted metal. That chili bowl car this year (French Grimes?) was similiar in look.

It's definately the San Jose fairgrounds speedway, I recognize the plywood wall/fence. San Jose used to run "super modifieds" that were basically sprints, but with different tail tanks and a few other things. Some of the San Jose guys used to ocassionally bring their cars to Baylands for the sprint shows. I don't remember the wings being so big though.:confused:

A whole host of tracks ran the Supers in northern California. They were more than just sprint cars with wings, although many of the NARC teams would put a wing on and run with the supers (back before NARC ran with wings). They ran on asphalt at the old San Jose track on Tully Road, at Stockton, Roseville and Madera. I believe that they still run at Madera.

When they shut the Tully Road track down, the racing in San Jose shifted down the street to the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

The "unlimited" supers ran on dirt at West Capital Raceway and later on the "new" dirt in San Jose. Limited supers ran at Hangtown (now Placerville), Chico, and Grass Valley. That was some awesome racing back then.

The supers eventually morphed into winged sprints. Well, at least the ones on dirt did.

One of my favorite websites is the West Capital Raceway nostalgia site. It really takes me back. Lots of pictures from the seventies and even further back. Other local Norcal tracks besides Capital, too.

I could be wrong, but I think that Carmen Manzardo drove that car at the Knoxville Nationals. I think the year was closer to 1987. Speedway Airflow wings also had a multi level wing they were testing about the same time. Butch Scroeder?

my question is, how did they get the cars and wings to the track together? They couldn't fit in an enclosed trailer, it wouldn't fit under a bridge on an open trailer (plus, the trailer would have killer downforce!!). Maybe separate trailers? :rolling
