Add the Staab Issue To A Long List Of USAC Blunders

For the life of me I cannot figure out why Mr. Miller has decided to part company with Greg Staab. I really can't add much more to what has already been expressed on this message board and others except that he was the only USAC official that ever bothered to go out of his way to be friendly with a genuine hello, how are yuh and a sincere appreciation for the racing community. So let's add this issue to a long list of blunders by various people in power over the years.
Here is a sampling of some of the blunders: 1. The division of the championship Trail. Look what we have now... speed rockets driven by 21 foreign drivers in the Indy 500 sprinkled with a few Americans. 2. Purpose built sprint, midget and silver crown cars for pavement and dirt. How crazy is it that a midget team must have two different cars to win $2500. And with that we now have pavement only teams, dirt only teams, pavement and dirt teams, cars in the same division that look totally different... what a nightmare. 3. The Fontana and Esslinger midget engines being allowed extra cubic inches. And I know of at least one other midget engine builder who has had the door slammed in his face when he asked to have the same opportunities to build a similar engine. 4. Tires and wheels so wide and big that race fans in the stands need combat gear to watch the racing. You're lucky if you're not totally covered with mud and dirt as the cars go by your area. 5. Allowing all kinds of exotic race parts materials such as expensive carbon fiber and titanium and electronic ignitions. 6. Complete failure to come up with a sensible plan to contain the costs of operating a race team in line with the purse. 7. Total mishandling of the Ford Focus program. |

Don - You have some good points. Many of us in this world have been layed off, fired, downsized, and just let go because someone did not gell with the company. If I was let go I don't think I would want dirty laundry spread about me on the internet. Obviously there are reasons for the departure that are only between Greg and USAC. I would leave it at that. Just my thoughts.

The Staab departure issue, which is old news, is only one small part of my editorial.

As for Don Moore, there is a song by the rock group Garbage that seems to fit him - "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" (except change "Rain" to "Gripe"). My memory is lousy, but I can't recall him saying much good about much of anything. He needs to find a new way to allow himself to enjoy life. He sure seems pretty miserable to me. |

It's like the boy who cried wolf. Now that he actually has a valid point and wrote something worth taking a look at everyone will discredit it because of the source. USAC has been broken for many years whether people want to admit it or not.

And when I helped a friend on a S/C car at Sacramento several years ago, I was amazed at the number of officials that USAC had to put on the show - it seemed like there was an official in every pit? Who pays for these folks? |

Yes, officials on top of more officials.. lots of official vehicles for all the officials to drive to the tracks... and the official USAC Hauler for the officials to officially hangout in when they aren't officiating.

Wow... After reading all the posts regarding the USAC officiating, or lack of, at Anderson Wednesday night, sounds like the wheels are coming off of the new regime....
