Has USAC changed the rule for the Silver Crown cars to allow aluminum blocks? I have been following one of the Facebook pages and one team has purchased and is building an aluminum engine. I checked the rule book this morning and Rule 219 C 1 states that no aluminum blocks are allowed.
I did not see any announcements from USAC at PRI regarding a block rule change. Have all of the 2014 registered teams been notified?
I don't believe the website has been updated to the 2015 rules, but in speaking with Andy this past tuesday, aluminum blocks will be allowed and will be required to run added weight to the cars or you can run steel blocks at the current weight rules. I think he was handing the rules out at PRI to teams.
I doubt it very much. But with USAC, nothing shocks me anymore. It would be a huge bullet through their foot though if they did allow such a change to happen to the rule in my opinion.
I wonder if they ever check to see if they are all cast iron blocks anyway.
Add 60lbs, like it used to be? Only thing is, many aluminum blocks are way lighter than what was made in the 80s, but the steel blocks are lighter too.
