I agree that we don't need another pavement winged sprint car series. HOSS & AVSS put on a great show and they seem to do it right by the owners, drivers and fans. Must See has brought TV into the picture and from a fans prospective put on a good show. Recent postings here suggest things might not be all rosey from the owners/drivers side though.

In my opinion, USAC's recent history with pavement racing in general, doesn't give me a warm, fuzzy feeling that they can improve the situation at all. They have numerous problems that need solved before they enter into another area with no need at all.

I would love to see a Supermodified series that is solid here in the midwest. In talking with a track owner and a couple of others in the know, they told me that the supers are a rather disfunctional group and that car counts have been a real problem. I don't know all of the issues at hand, but there are certain areas that they do well in and others that they don't.

ISMA has backed off of traveling to the midwest other than for the Hy-Miler in Sandusky. The Midwest Supermodified Association has been scheduling races in Ohio and Michigan but last year cancelled a scheduled race at Baer Field in Fort Wayne. The Must See series has tried to race at Winchester, IRP, Anderson and other venues, but the car counts have been low and they have also cancelled races prior to the date for the same reason.

I suspect money is an issue and with the current economy I don't see 2014 being a break out year either for the supers. I hope that I am wrong and we can see more races in and around Indiana in the near future.

Maybe a little history is in order here. First of all, as others have mentioned what new fan base would you be reaching with winged pavement sprint cars? The history of USAC pavement racing was at its best when one car could do both surfaces. That all went to hell when a few wealthy owners were willing to spend enormous dollars to run specialized cars for pavement. so you had teams like the Armstrong team and a few others who basically put the small teams at a huge disadvantage. A few of us who were around at this time watched as the USAC schedule began to be dominated by pavement racing to the point where if you wanted to see a dirt race you had to look elsewhere. Lastly, like it or not much of USAC's issues during this time period is that they were still operating under the dominance of IMS and the concept of running USAC meant a trip to the 500. We all know how that turned out. All of this opened the door for the WoO to to prosper because of the lack of understanding in the leadership at USAC as to what their new role was to be as CART came to the Speedway Today USAC needs to realize its bread and butter is the great racing that can be found in non-wing dirt racing. Now if they could just figure out a way to inform the young sprint car fan about the differences between wing vs non-wing they would really be on to something!

I hope you don't mean the decades old argument that winged cars actually drive themselves around the race track...
