TATE MARTZ WINS AT MADISON

On Saturday night August 11th the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com raced at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Madison, Ind. and defending champion Tate Martz won his second feature in as many races.

Martz, driving Roger Ramsey’s #1 Beast Honda sponsored by Old Canal Smokehouse and Vincennes University, started the evening off with a bang by setting a new track record of 14.966 seconds in qualifying and then capped it off by scoring his fourteenth MTQRL feature win.

Bobby Walton and Brandon Ladyman started the feature on the front row with Martz relegated to mid pack due to his quick time and an inversion of nine. Walton took the lead at the start of the feature but the race was halted after one lap scored when Josh Walton, Bobby’s nephew, made contact with a spun car and flipped in turn one.

When racing resumed Walton again held the point with Martz working his way towards the front. On lap ten, as the leaders encountered lapped traffic, Nick Speidel made his way to the front to take over the lead. Speidel’s lead was short lived however as Martz passed him the next lap.

Martz went on to slice his way through the field lapping all but the top seven finishers. Speidel finished second followed by current point leader Brett Hankins, Rick Robinson and Walton. Cody Kiewitt, Ladyman, Dustin Wheeldon, Chris Mann and Cory Richie rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action Cody Kiewitt won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel, Dustin Wheeldon won the semi feature, and Perfect North Slopes heat winners were Brett Hankins, Rick Robinson and Kiewitt.

Cory Richie, in his first MTQRL start of the season, passed nine cars in the feature and was named the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger. Dustin Wheeldon was the highest finishing of the eight rookie drivers and his eighth place feature finish garnered him the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race award.

The Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck award went to Josh Walton after his flip in the feature, the Jackson Oil & Solvents gift certificate was won by Dustin Wheeldon and the American Racer tire giveaway went to Cody Kiewitt after his sixth place feature finish.

The next race on the MTQRL schedule will be Saturday August 18th at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. The MTQRL and the Shelby County Fair Association are working together to make this event as enjoyable as possible for the fans. The 600cc sidewinder micro sprints have been added to the card as a support division and general admission is being offered at a special reduced rate of 2 adults for $12.
