John you bring up a point I found myself asking while watching the race Saturday , where is the passing. I was questioning whether there would have been passing if they were on Hoosier tires? Don doesn't seem to want to answer your question but there was no passing other than the change for the lead. I thought Jacob Wilson was going to be able to pull off a pass a couple of times but it didn't happend.
I don't want this to seem like a negative post because I think MSRXSS is trying to help keep pavement sprint racing alive, they have TV coverage and I appluad them for that. With that being said they have built there series around all the hype of breaking track records. As I stated earlier track records don't really mean all that much to me. Maybe I look at things differently than most but they never raced at Oswego before so I don't see it as they broke Chris Perley's record I see it as they established a record for there division and they will break it when they come back Labor Weekend and go faster. Both the ISMA Supermodifieds and MSRXSS are lightning fast, the steel walls at Oswego are unforgiving, so for me I was happy to see a green to checker MSRXSS race, yes I would have liked some passing, but if that meant a car going into that steel wall at 145 to a 148 miles an hour and someone getting injured; I'll take the no passing. I have had some other thoughts about this post over the past two days, the thread Pavement Dave started with the race results from Oswego had only been viewed 425 times when I looked earlier today while this post has over 2000 views. Seems to me Don knows how to market/promote the series he runs in, or at least he knew how to title this thread to get us to look. Patti |

I dont care about all the new track record hype, its not going to make me think I have to go watch them.
To be fair though, I did go to the Anderson race this year before the Little 500 and that race was ok. |

At one time there was a run what you brung race, and it was great. It was at a place called Winchester, and the race was the Sammy Sessions Memorial. No wings , and sprints and supers ran together. Rear engines, roadsters, and 1 bada$$ upright with a bolt on roll cage. Vogler would kick a lot of butt in the old Miller Plating car.
Why not do it this year, and find out who REALLY is the fastest and the best . NO RULES, JUST RACING. |

Of course, we are comparing apples to oranges, but that doesn't change the fact that the MSR sprints were faster than the winged ISMA Supers at Oswego. I like both series cars, so I don't have any prejudice in this discussion. I saw what I saw though. I had to sort of chuckle at one person's comment that the Sprints are lighter and have a weight advantage, etc. Although the Supers are heavier, let's not forget that they have a lower center of gravity, non-static multi-paneled wings, ground effects, along with independent front suspensions on some of them. MSR is a new series, and they will grow and improve. In my opinion, they are doing a fantastic job of marketing their program and booking races where they can showcase their talent to a new audience. The stands were packed. Everyone I sat near enjoyed the racing. If you had asked me before the show started, I would have bet that the Supers would be much faster than traditional upright winged sprints. I'm glad I didn't make that bet, because I was wrong. I still don't see how anyone can brag about how these records were set on American Racer tires, there wasn't a choice. Put the 50m on Hoosiers and it would break all of them, no question. Sorry Don there are allot of "errors" in your post.

My goodness. I just don't understand. What did some of you guys do when it was a winged state? What is the Hoosier tire supremacy love about? These are honest questions and I'm not trying to rile anyone up. I'm sitting here, unemployed and back in school after moving from MI to Ft. Wayne and wonder why some complain so much? Did you know that there are different forms of racing outside of Indiana? I will head to a pavement winged show if it's available to me but if it isn't I will be in Ohio or Indiana or Michigan to watch open wheel racing. I'm amazed when Mr. Patterson replies with a great post and gets criticized. Mr. Hanks has done in 2-3 years what USAC can't even dream of. I want them to get the champ cars. I want them to get the midgets. I want them to take the sprints. I'd like to be a part of that.
