32 go into 4 heats with the fastest on the pole of the first heat second quick on the pole of the second heat and so on after everyone is where they belong there is an 8 car invert in the heats (fastest starts 8th in the first heat) the C-Main transfers start behind them

When it comes to the B-main everyone gets their time back and they start straight up

The A-main is started straight up with time with the execption of an invert for the top 6

If time trails are what your looking for to set the field, then incorperate TT's in to the Hot Laps. Most of the sancintiong bodies are looking or have transponders for the race cars. Then set your field with the fastest 32 to 40 and either have 1 or 2 "C Mains" or "Last Chance races" (what ever you want to call them) to tag the tail of the "B Main". Have the "A Main" set to start 22 to 24 cars. With that hopefuly there is less laps on the track (based on 2 laps per car in quals) so it hold better for the "racing events" and ALL the competitors still have a shot at the A Main.

However, I feel that a blind draw, with 10 car per heat limit, max of 12 laps/ heat and transfer to the corosponding A,B's,C,'s, D's still gives the "quailty show' to fans, racers, promoters, and sancitioning bodies.

You are wrong and Chuck is right IMO.

What you could also do if your tracks don't already do it, is, I know some of you guys' don't like all the support divisions, put a time limit on the support divisions heats and feature's. Heats 10 laps or 10 minutes and feature 15 laps 15 minutes or 20 laps 20 minutes. Or make the time limit what ever you want. If they keep spinning out or crashing and only get 2 laps in, in their heat, its checkered and the next heat comes out. Same for the feature. :checkered:. I know they used to do that in PA. But I'm not sure if they do anymore or not.....

Actually the WoO format is always one of the most difficult to explain:

40 cars into a heat, invert 4, take 4, fast time draws a pill for dash inversion, 8 dash cars fill the first four rows, everyone else behind them by time.

When WoO ran two dashes it was much more convoluted than this.

USAC: Top 32 to heats; everyone else to Non-Qualifiers, 4 cars from non-qualifiers. Top 8 inverted in heats, take 4; top 6 inverted in main.

Maybe having fastest sector time in the results will help you figure out the format....

I stopped reading after you suggested Non-qualifier cars get a free pass to the Semi.

What bothers me is the whole locked in mentality. Im in third, Im safe, I don't have to move forward, I get my qualifying time back.

Thats the main thing that made Midget week that much more exciting to me than the standard 32/lock 4. Guys running third were going for second or the lead, Guys in back were moving up quickly.

Line up the heats by Qualifying straight up or the way it is now and then line up The features by passing points. Best of both worlds?

No, just lineup the feature by finishing position. Winners, then 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th.

Straight-up heat races or invert 4, so the fast guys are at least starting with a transfer spot. If they want to start up front, they have to race a little.

The one thing I like about the WoO format is that those guys are trying to race into the dash, instead of the feature. The invert four - take four deal will only work if there's a dash, which I'm not a huge fan of. Those are usually ho-hum. This year, they inverted four and only the top two made the dash. Then, they added in the top two qualifiers who transferred but weren't in the top two. You wanna talk about a format that is hard on guys who qualify poorly....that's the one!!

I personally love the USAC format. I thought the Sprintweek heats were every bit as good or better than the Midget Week heats simply because you had less guys running away from the front row.

The inversion in USAC heats is what sets USAC apart from other series. People I know who rarely go to USAC races just rave about those heat races. It is pretty cool to be able to watch guys race that hard ALL night long, and not just in the feature.

Like I said, I would lock in 40. Still invert 8 in the heats, so qualifiers 33-40 are in row five of heats. Tack on four more from an LCQ so 44 guys total race in the four heats. No more than four, please....you're just diluting the talent.

I would give everyone their time back from the B, but you can't start any better than row five, which is what CRA does. The first four rows would be made up of the top eight qualifiers who transferred through their heats. It's the best format I've seen, by far....

Chili Bowl Format / TNT Format / ASCS Format

From the time you unload to the time you put it in the trailer you drive your tail off for that extra position and the extra passing points. Whether its a heat, qualifier, non qualifier, B or the A. There are no bad draws no excuses just take it to the front.
