FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 6, 2011

Millstream Speedway
Findlay, Ohio

Media Contact: Dustin Jarrett (dustinjarrett@yahoo.com)

Dean Miracle Steps Down; Millstream Speedway Closes

FINDLAY, OH (7/6/11) – Effective immediately, Dean Miracle has made the decision to step away from Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio. The track is now closed until further notice.

Citing low car counts and few spectators, longtime dirt track racing ambassador Dean Miracle is stepping down from his duties as Promoter of Millstream Speedway. The 4/10-mile track, located just west of Findlay, Ohio, is owned by Greg and Mary Beth Rowe.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce my decision to quit running Millstream Speedway,” Miracle said. “After several months of hard work and investing money on a track that needs so much more work and money, I have decided to let Greg Rowe have it back. On my own time and with my own money, I was able to open the restrooms and concession stand. I replaced all the breaker boxes on the light poles in the infield, but now the front stretch lights need redone. Needless to say, there is still a lot more work to be done and a lot more money to be spent. I have paid out of pocket to fix and replace things at the track, buy equipment, pay my help, and then still cover the purse at the end of the night when the crowd was not big enough.”

With Miracle’s decision comes the closure of the track the Miracle helped to reopen in 2008, after the facility sat dormant for nearly ten years.

“I have put all of the effort and money into Millstream that I can. That being said, I hope Greg Rowe will sell the track to someone who will put the money and effort the track needs or put the money and effort into it himself. I wish luck to whoever takes this task on.”

In regards to the remaining events from July 3rd which were postponed, Miracle said, “All of the drivers from the July 3rd race have had their money sent out to them.”

Anyone who still has an arm band from the All Star Speedweek race can send it to Dean Miracle for a full refund at the following address: 352 Midland Ave., Findlay, OH 45840.

Miracle closed by saying, “Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has supported Millstream Speedway as well as all of my help. Simply put, a race track cannot make it on 350 to 450 people a race. Anyone who wants to discuss this matter or any matter with me can stop by my office I would be glad to talk to you about it.”

I was there a few weeks back. It was a late Sunday afternoon early evening race, and the first one of the season. I knew what I was going in to, and I was just glad to add my third new track of the year and third track of that weekend. Very similar circumstances to THAT, a larger track that has sat dormant for the majority of the last decade. Greg Wilson, whom I have seen race many times and never win took the checkers that night.

After a decade and a half of not going to any races I always feel I have a lot of time to make up. I've been to USA International, a 5/8 mile paved track that used to be in Florida, reminded me of all the USAR Pro Cup races that were televised and dominated by Bobby Gill while was in college. I've been to Manzanita, although I got food poisoning and lost a lot of photos due to a hard drive crash. I've been to THAT, about a year before we lost Jesse Hockett and got to see him do battle with Clauson and Levi. I've also been to IRP and seen the late Charlie Bradberry take on current sometime Cup start-and-park racer Landon Cassill. Also got to see veteran Gary St.Amant race again since my childhood, before 16 yr old series rookie Joey Logano was even born. Friday's Daytona Nationwide winner failed to make the field that day.

I know little of the above has to do with Dean Miracle. It has more to do some of the tracks we have lost in the last 5 years. I fear we will lose more. It also has to do with the talented and great people who pass through this sport. I consider myself a fan of all racing, and somewhat of a track chaser tethered by a job and family. No matter how bad a track can be, I always enjoy some part of the experience. Whether it's getting two speeding tickets in one weekend, eating Steak N Shake for the 1st time or meeting fellow IOWer's. I'd have to say just get out to a racetrack! I would have to say I enjoyed my trip to Millstream, and the odds can be stacked against you. Waynesfield was another track I have been to under Dean's promotion, and had a great experience as well.

Good luck in the future and thanks for your effort.

Dean, why are you acting like you are alone when Rich Farmer was leasing the track and you were supposed to be running it for him? I hope Rich will have the "Road to the Hewitt" Show on July 31st! We need to keep a great race track alive!

Dean was alone. Rich left before first race. He chose to try and run the schedule they both prepared but could afford to anymore.

A pretty good lesson in most promotors don't get rich. Expecially the ones pouring money into facilities they don't own.

I went to one race at Millstream back in the 80s and had planned on making one this year since it was running NW. Pretty neat track and the fact that the night I was there the Current LM champ at the time from the Burg, Danny Eichler was winning. Nothing like being the only fan at a place cheering someone you know and they don't.

Chuck, wishing Dean all the Best.

I attended Millstream many times in the 80s and early 90s. It was one of the first places that I ever took pictures. I remember an Ohio Speedweek opener with around 100 cars. It was the first time I'd ever saw Brent Kaeding and what happened, he ended up flipping right in front of me in my spot in the turn 1 hillside. Too many other memories to recount.
It bothers me to see new ball parks go up all the time, many replacing another great park that wasn't built all that long ago, while at the same time a new racetrack comes along very seldom. And many of the ones that have come along are places with thoughts of a NASCAR event. I guess I have no real idea of what taxpayer money goes into building the new stadiums, but when is short track racing going to get its due? These places bring people into the area to spend money and can be a boost for the economy.
The truth is, for short track racing to grow we need some more state of the art tracks. When are we going to get an indoor stadium built for sprint car racing, specially built to keep the noise in and take care of the air problems? One that could race year around.
I know, I'm dreaming.
