After reading another thread on IOW about series sponsorships and purses, I'd like to make a few comments. First of all when the owners of midget race cars show up at a race track, they are presenting vehicles that are expensive pieces of machinery. No, we don't expect to make a profit from racing. We are in the hole before we even leave the driveway. But, that does not mean that we should race for free. We are not prostitutes for promoters. We deserve at least something for showing up. Step back from all of this. Everyone deserves to be paid for their participation. But if the push truck guys, announcers, track personnel etc. etc. are leaving the track with more cash in their pocket (I'm not talking about my capital investment in the race car) than the owners who risk the trashing of expensive equipment and drivers who put their lives on the line for the promoters, we deserve better. Let me get specific here. I and approximately 55 cars raced at a big midget event in 2010. Only 21 were paid by the promoter. No tow money. Zero. My team will not be returning for events that pay zero beyond the feature payout. If others want to continue their participation in these events, more power to them. Good luck. I wrote a letter to the promoter of this event several weeks ago and have yet to get an answer. Once again, no, I don't need the tow money, but there are other teams that, I'm sure, do to survive. Once again, we deserve better for the good of the sport.

The best midget purse year after year in the country FROM TOP TO BOTTOM bar none is the FORT WAYNE Rumble Series events. And Tony Barhorst is clearly the best midget promoter in the country bar none. Thank you Tony for continuing to promote the FW indoor races and thank you for respecting the midget owners and drivers who show up for your events.

Why would a Track Operator pay more if he is drawing a full field of cars?
As long as Car Owners support low paying shows nothing will change.

Exactly. Couldn't agree more. They will have one less car and one less name driver there next time. The promoter/driver/owner scenario is a great example of unorganized labor. This continues to go on in the racing community with the mindset "that's the way it's always been done". Isn't our economy the result of the same circumstances? People out of work big time in the U.S.A. while jobs are being shipped to India and Asian countries. I can take one of your sentences and apply it to U. S. commerce practices:

Why should a company pay you or your neighbor a decent wage when I can ship jobs to another country for pennies on the dollar compared to what labor costs here. Yeah... no jobs here. Are you or your neighbor willing to work for free or pennies on the hour?

make these companies pay a 100% import tax when the product comes back in the states, and youll see a big change.

Don Moore for president!

Your are right...I can state for sure car counts are less at some events due to the mentioned pay-out rule. Seems to be working for them though...for now...
