I'm considering the 2 MSCS races(Fri.@Bloomington &Sat.@Haubstadt) this weekend instead of staying here in Illinois and going to the back to back POWRI shows.
The Powri shows are within 2 hours or so. Bloomington is 2 1/2 a stay over then on to Haubstadt & a stay over.
Why?
you say...well....the last 2 Powri shows I went to, the Powri announcer was less than forthcoming, with the information that I need for score keeping, adding to my frustration.
I know, I will get all the info I need in Bloomington and I hope so in Haubstadt.

This brings to mind a question/gripe to the forum that follows.
What part of being an announcer, is so hard to understand, that there are people in the stands that want information in a timely manner, especially if the information is available and there is dead air or music playing.
I go to enough oval racing that, even if the they gave a rundown of just the numbers, I could figure out the rest. I realize they want to get all the car sponsors, associates and etc. as they are coming out. well guess what?, people aren't hearing that either. If an announcer cannot understand this, they need to come out and sit with me in the stands. I want to know if they can hear and understand everything being announced with the cars are warming up, pushing off and circling the track. let alone most of the antiquated audio systems hanging on the catch fence.

I agree with most of what you are saying, but I have to say, I think, Jim Childers is one of the best announcers around.

Rich I've always thought the announcers should work in an open booth so they can hear what we do. Maybe it was the tone of her voice or maybe it was that the 'burg always seemed to have their PA jacked way up but I always was able to hear Kimb Stewart above the din.

Yes, I too miss Kim.
I know its because of my age but this never seemed to be a problem in the old days. I also understand that this is no big deal for the fan that doesn't scorekeep, as I.
However, as I said before, what use is it to the sponsors and associate sponsors when they are not being heard through the noise either? Clearly, they are very important to the teams and drivers or they wouldn't be worried about plugging & thanking them in the winners circle.

Personally, I feel there is a very small number of truly good announcers.
But, there is an even smaller number of good PA systems.

Unfortunately, they seem to love to hear themselves talk. Most of the time, they don't really have anything to say. I love the ones who go off down memory lane to 1965 and tell us all about a moment in time that was very funny (to them). PA announcers need to stay in the present and give us the information that we need not what they want to tell us. Please, save if for your biography.

Agreed that so many of the PA systems are outdated. I realize it costs money but many are past the time of replacement.
